This kopitiam for Westies returns with 24-hour dim sum, fish head curry & chendol
Attention, Westies living around the Jurong West vicinity! The Heng Fa Li coffee shop along Street 41 is back in business from 29 Nov 2024, after nearly a month of renovation.
Nearby residents might be wondering, “What new food options are there?” or “Is my favourite stall still around?” Out of the 12 establishments, 3 are fresh new additions. Let’s dive in!
Lovers of spicy food with its fragrant array of spices can look forward to the offerings at Muslim-owned Makan Melaka. The stall was previously located just a short walk away at block 492 but has since shut down.
Feast on some fried-food goodness with the Ayam Goreng Berampah (S$5) or enthrall your senses (yas!) with the Chicken/Beef Rendang (S$6). You can even cool off from the heat with a refreshing bowl of Chendol (S$2).
Swing by Feng Feng Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice for a satisfying plate of Steamed Chicken Rice (S$3.50) or a shiok bowl of Curry Chicken Noodle (S$5.80). To reward yourself after a long day of work, you can add-on a Braised Egg (+S$0.80), Chicken Wing (S$1.60) or even Chicken Organs (+S$1) (if that’s your jam).
The third new addition is Bai Li Xiang Bee Hoon where you can get your usual economical noodle fix. Start your day with affordable S$2.50 sets like Set 1 – Bee Hoon with Hotdog or Fish Cake and Set 2- Bee Hoon with Chicken Wing.
Head over to Jurong West Claypot Curry Fish and you’ll be greeted by a bunch of ang zhou (golden snapper) heads used for the Claypot Curry Fish Head (S$24/S$27/S$46).
The stall also has other dishes including Claypot Chicken Rice (S$7/S$14/S$20), Salted Fish Beansprout (S$6/S$8) and Fu Rong Omelette (S$6/S$8).
I wasn’t impressed by the Claypot Chicken Rice, which lacked in flavour and smokiness. However, my disappointment quickly faded with the impressive Claypot Curry Fish Head, which hit all the right spots. The fish was fresh while the curry was well-balanced— definitely a must-try!
One might assume that only bak kwa can be purchased from Peng Guan Traditional BBQ Pork Jerky. But look up at the signboard, and you’ll notice that they offer much more. Discover a variety of noodles like Ee Mian (S$4.50) and Prawn Mee Hoon Kueh (S$5.50).
If you happen to be around the neighbourhood, take advantage of their opening promo which runs till 1 Dec 2024. You can get your hands on 1kg Bak Kwa for S$20 or 500g for S$10.
There’s also Kimly Dim Sum and Kimly Drinks Store which stay open for 24 hours, so stop by for a light snack and drink anytime of the day.
As for the other stalls, I’ll leave it to you to discover them at Heng Fa Li yourself.
