Turner passed away last week after battling a "long illness," her publicist Bernard Doherty said. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."
King Charles met Turner in 1986, when she was part of the Prince's Trust concert at Wembley Stadium.
That same day, Princess Diana also met Turner—one of her favorite musicians.
"One of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s 'The Best' because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment. And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice," Prince William said in Apple Fitness's Time to Walk series in December 2021.
The Prince of Wales added, "We’d even get the policeman in the car: he'd occasionally be singing along as well. We’d be singing and listening to the music right the way up to the gates at school where they dropped you off. When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother."
Turner also performed for the royal family in 1989 during a Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium, when she met Queen Elizabeth.
