As people gradually adapted to the new normal living with the coronavirus, a number of attractions have begun to open their doors to public, including Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland which features Beauty And The Beast. Jumping on the bandwagon is Japan’s life-size moving Gundam that has recently confirmed its grand opening date to be on 19 December 2020.

Located at Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, about 30 minutes south of Tokyo, the gigantic robot stands at 18 metres tall. As part of the Gundam Global Challenge project, the attraction — originally scheduled to open this October, but delayed due to the pandemic — will run till 31 March 2022.

Next to the robot is Gundam Factory Yokohama which features Gundam Lab. Like in a museum, visitors can see how the life-size mobile suit was assembled, and even experience Gundam Pilot View, an augmented reality of sitting in the Gundam’s cockpit.

For fans who prefer a more up-close look at the robot’s intricacies, they can scale the Gundam Dock Tower — the maintenance scaffolding surrounding the Gundam.

Admission to Gundam Factory Yokohama is 1,650 yen for visitors aged 13 and above, 1,100 yen for children aged 7 to 12, with free admission for up to three children aged 6 and younger when accompanied by a paying adult. To commemorate its opening, visitors will receive a free 1:200-scale Gundam plastic model, while stocks last. Access to the Gundam Dock Tower will cost an additional 3,300 yen each. All fees are inclusive of tax.
