Japan has opened up to tourists for real! Who's excited? We are!
Japanophiles rejoice! The land of the rising sun has finally lifted tourist restrictions. After closing its borders for more than two years, travellers from most countries can now visit Japan without applying for a visa in advance.
From 11 October 2022, previous arrangements such as the following will be abolished:
Purchasing a package tour organised by a Japan-based travel agency
Obtaining the ERFS certification for visa application
Visa application

Given that there is now a clearer way to enter Japan for tourists, just in time for autumn and winter travel, it's wise to act fast! A quick check on Skyscanner.com shows S$553 for indirect flights and S$1258 for direct flights, which is already a spike from previous weeks.
The silver lining is that the Japanese yen is now at a multi-decade low, meaning you might find it slightly cheaper than before.
