If the season autumn/fall inspires wondrous images in your head, and you love the cool yet not freezing temperatures of the season – September, October and November are generally great months to travel towards the Northern Hemisphere. Here are some of our favourite destinations for autumn, otherwise known as fall!

Canada is one of the best places on Earth to catch foliage changing from green to an explosion of warm colours. Apart from pristine natures, expect stunning phenomenons such as salmon runs, grizzly season (make sure to observe from afar only, if you spot any at all!), and best of all, autumn auroras in areas such as Banff National Park, Ontario, the Yukon and Elk Island National Park in Alberta.

Formerly known as Constantinople and the capital of some of the most powerful empires in history, Istanbul has stood between conflicting surges of religion, culture, and imperial power for more than 2,500 years. The result is an abundance of historical landmarks and a vibrant Islamic and Mediterranean mix of cultures. Bonus: It's heaven for cat lovers, as stray felines are protected, and can be found anywhere. Best of all, they are friendly!

Japan

Run, don't walk. Last week, Japan announced that border restrictions will be eased. From 7 September, the daily limit for all arrivals will be raised to 50,000, up from the previous limit of 20,000. Pre-arrival tests are no longer required, plus, non-guided package tours will be allowed. Just in time for autumn and cosmos flowers season!
