Summer is just around the corner and, for many New Yorkers, that means spending the season in the Hamptons. Of course, going east isn't exactly a new phenomenon: As a child, Jackie Kennedy Onassis (née Bouvier) would spend her summers at her grandfather's East Hampton estate, which was lovingly called Lasata—or "place of peace" in the Algonquin language of the indigenous Montaukett people. If you've been itching to own a slice of American history, we've got good news for you: Lasata is officially on the market for a cool $55 million.

"Lasata is considered one of our region's most important and beautiful estates," says the Corcoran Group's Eileen O'Neill, who listed the property alongside Ed Petrie of Compass. "Under the seller's stewardship, the home's interior has been painstakingly updated and enhanced while preserving its remarkable history. It's an iconic property and truly one-of-a-kind."

For many, Kennedy Onassis is considered one of the most fashionable (and influential) women in American history—so it's only fitting that her childhood home receives top style marks, too. Built around 1917, the 8,500-square-foot primary residence stuns with its coffered walls, exposed wooden beams, and curved clerestory windows. And the sprawling estate offers room for all your friends—and all your staff—with a pool house, a two-bedroom guest area, caretaker's quarters, and a three-car garage. As for high society bragging rights, Lasata has been home to more than one style-setter: Fashion designer Reed Krakoff owned this property until he sold it to film and television producer David Zander, who has just put the place on the market.

If you aren't looking to invest at the moment, but still wish you could see the place, we're here for you. There's no need to trek out to Long Island to get a glimpse at this place of peace. Read on for a virtual tour of Kennedy Onassis's iconic summer digs.

Front Yard

Talk about curb appeal! Not only were the property's gardens designed by landscape architect Louis Benech, but the estate is also peppered with an array of century-old trees. Linden, London Planes, Cork, and American Elm trees? Check, check, check, and check.
