iQiyi wants to adapt Thai movie, "ATM"


25 Jun - Following reports of its acquisition of the copyright to Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid", it was reported that iQiyi has acquired another movie for its Chinese remake.

As reported on ECNS, the company recently revealed that it is adapting the Thailand box-office hit, "ATM" into its own Chinese version, which will be helmed by Zha Muchun ("Go Away Mr Tumor", "Buddies in India").

The original film, "ATM: Er Rak Error" was released in 2012 and stars Chantavit Dhanasevi and Preechaya Pongthananikorn as a married couple who compete between themselves to recover money withdrawn from a malfunctioned ATM, with the losing person forced to resign his or her job.

The movie grossed over THB 150 million (USD 4.4 million), making it Thailand's seventh top-grossing film of all time.

The Chinese adaptation is currently filming in Zhejiang, and is scheduled for release in 2018.
