Home Baking Day is a baking studio from Taiwan that replicates the experience of baking from home. Unlike other baking studios in Singapore, Home Baking Day does not hold scheduled classes— instead, bakers are guided by a tablet that walks them through each step with detailed instructions and video tutorials. This means that you can walk into the studio anytime to bake without having to worry about class timings or schedules.

The studio is located in City Square Mall and boasts a large space complete with all sorts of different sections, including an ingredients area, multiple refrigerators, stand mixers and ovens. Everything that you need to bake is provided for you, and the best part is that you won’t need to worry about cleaning up— simply deposit your dirty equipment at the cleaning station and it’ll be taken care of for you!

There are 38 recipes on the permanent menu for you to choose from, where you can try your hand at baking beautiful treats like the Pomelo Lemon Tart (S$75), Sesame Chiffon with Peanut Butter Mascarpone (S$80) and Matcha Red Bean Chiffon Cake with Honey Pomelo Jelly (S$85).

There is also a seasonal menu that changes periodically— during my visit, the seasonal menu was Strawberry Banquet, featuring 9 strawberry-based recipes. I opted to make the Strawberry Ganache Square Chiffon (S$85).

The bakes range from S$50 to S$90 each, and are divided into 3 sections: Easy, Intermediate and Advanced.

I enjoyed how independent my baking experience was at Home Baking Day— as the process was fully explained via the tablet, I was able to collect and weigh out my own ingredients by myself, and was also able to combine them at my own pace. When I was unsure of where to find certain equipment or didn’t know how to operate the stand mixer, the friendly staff were there to help out and ensure that everything went smoothly.

There was never a moment in which I felt like I had nothing to do— even when I had to wait for 20 minutes for the cake to bake and another 15 minutes for it to cool down, I was still able to keep my hands busy by beginning to prep the cream and strawberries for the cake’s fillings and toppings. Assembling the cake was super easy too, as Home Baking Studio conveniently provided all the tools I needed, such as the cake mould, cake sleeve and cake tray.

The finished product turned out absolutely beautiful, almost like something I’d buy from a professional bakery! It was hard to believe that I had baked it from scratch. My colleague, Angie, baked the Fruit Chiffon Cake with Honey Chantilly (S$85), and it turned out beautifully too.

I had a fun time at Home Baking Studio and I loved how it effectively guided me in baking a beautiful cake all on my own. I didn’t have to worry about any pesky clean-up work and just got to enjoy the process of baking and decorating my cake. I also liked how there was such a huge assortment of desserts to bake, ensuring that bakers will get to enjoy learning how to bake various cakes, tarts and cookies.

Regardless of whether you’re looking to pick up a new skill, or if you just feel like baking but don’t want to deal with the hassle of buying ingredients and cleaning up, Home Baking Day is the perfect place to visit!
