Han Geng: I didn't want to just dance and jump in my 30s

11 Apr – "I had my own plans" - that's what Han Geng recently said when asked about his reason for leaving S.M. Entertainment and his K-pop group Super Junior in the past.

As reported on Phoenix, recently, a clip from Han Geng's television interview went viral online, in which the singer talks about his days as a K-pop idol and the reason why he decided that it was no longer the life he wanted.

Han, who left the group and his Korean management agency in 2009 (which only became official in 2011), shared that to be an idol means being good-looking, a great dancer, and having a legion of fans - and that's who he was at the time.

"But I didn't agree with the company's control over the groups. The company controls your image, and dictates what you can or cannot do. You have to put the interest of the company and the group ahead of your own," he said.

But said Han, this was the opposite of what he wanted to do.

"I wanted to be an actor. I [don't want to] jump and dance at the age of 30. I had my own plans," he said.

When asked if he doesn't care enough for the fans when he decided to leave, Han replied that he does care for them and needs them, but that he didn't have much to offer to them being only an idol singer.
