Gong Li joins "The Foreigner" director's new movie

Since her last appearance in 2010, this will mark the actress' return to Hollywood

Gong Li was last seen on the big screen as Baigujing (White-Boned Demon) in "The Monkey King 2".

16 Oct – After her last Hollywood appearance in 2010's "Shanghai", Gong Li is now set for her long-awaited return in the upcoming action thriller, "Ana".

On board to helm is "The Foreigner" director Martin Campbell, with a script from "The Equalizer's" Richard Wenk, according to Variety.

To be produced by "Rush Hour's" Arthur Sarkissian and China's Bruno Wu, the upcoming film is said to be in the same vein as "La Femme Nikita", the 1990 film from Luc Besson starring Anne Parillaud.

With credits dating back to Zhang Yimou's directorial debut, "Red Sorghum", which took home the Golden Bear at the 1988 Berlin Film Festival, Gong has been involved in more drama-genre films such as "The Emperor and the Assassin", "2046", and "Memoirs of a Geisha".

Her latest portrayal as Baigujing (White-Boned Demon) in "The Monkey King 2" marks her first action role in her acting career.

No word yet on the release date but production on "Ana" is expected to begin in March or April next year.
