Tia Lee made big waves in the music industry with her successful song, Goodbye Princess, setting a new record for the fastest C-Pop video to hit 100 million views on YouTube and her #EmpowerHer campaign breaking records and going viral on social media platforms like TikTok. Aside from creating musical hits and championing charitable endeavours that totalled a whopping HKD 3.8 million (approximately USD 480,000) in donations, however, Tia has also been making waves in the fashion industry in 2023.

Starting back in November 2022, Tia graced the cover of Vogue Hong Kong, kicking off a slew of cover features, including UK magazines Rollacoaster and TMRW, US magazine Flaunt, Marie Claire Hong Kong, Icon Malaysia, Elle Thailand, Harper’s Bazaar Thailand and, in a surprising announcement, Grazia Middle East.

Not only does the inclusion of a magazine in the Middle East region prove that Tia’s popularity and influence have extended out of the Asian region, but also that she’s truly a global fashion icon with appearances in magazine titles across different continents and countries.

Additionally, Tia was invited to her first ever London Fashion Week in February 2023, sitting in the front row and rubbing shoulders with celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams and Leonardo DiCaprio, designers and A-list guests like David Koma, Richard Quinn and more. She turned heads as she arrived at British designer Julien Macdonald’s FW23 show in a gorgeous custom hand-embroidered lace slip dress and chiffon cape from the FW23 collection, tailored just for her.

As the only celebrity who was handpicked by the Macdonald to wear a piece prior to its debut in the FW23 collection show, Tia joined an exclusive international list of celebrities who were dressed by the King of Glamour, including Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell.

Tia shared after the show, “It was an absolute honor to meet Julien Macdonald in person and receive the gorgeous dress fresh off his latest collection. The intricate details are a testament to Julien’s passion for his craft, and I loved putting it on and watching a fabulous showcase of his latest work.”

While attending Richard Quinn’s FW23 show, Tia showcased an embroidered coat from the designer’s Spring 2023 Collection that had stunning floral embellishments with encrusted beads, an item that was part of a collection made in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. She also made an appearance at the Moncler Spring 2023 Collection show, donning a beautiful and elegant white ostrich feather Moncler Maya coat with a pair of sunglasses from the Moncler Genius line.

Not only did her wardrobe in 2023 consist of major luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Gucci and Prada, Tia also showed off pieces from the collections of regional fashion houses like South Korea’s LEE y. LEE y, Shanghai brand SHUSHU/TONG and US denim brand RE/DONE.

In a recent interview with Grazia Middle East, Tia mused, “Fashion builds value and personality. It’s another thing that breaks boundaries and unites people seamlessly, as music does. I am a huge fashion fan and am intrigued by the power that fashion brings to the world. I would say fashion is an important statement for all genders. It also helps all individuals build confidence and stay atop of trends at all times.”

It seems like fashion is definitely a big priority in Tia’s books moving forward, with a spokesperson for Tia talking about how happy she is with the success seen in 2023. Having made major strides in working with big luxury brands and aspiring local brands, Tia expects to continue working closely with the fashion world, with exciting announcements and collaborations coming up in 2024.

With Tia’s style being much more international, it could be a big supporting factor in the aim to globalise C-pop and bring the genre to a much wider audience. The spokesperson also teased that Tia has been working hard on practising her singing and dancing to prepare for large-scale live performances in 2024, which means that fans could be treated to even more incredible outfits when Tia takes to the stage.

We’ll most certainly be keeping an eye on how Tia’s fashion choices continue to grow and evolve throughout 2024, with multiple new songs and upcoming music videos also offering an avenue for Tia to show off her sartorial sense.
