GEM Tang: I was invited by Black Eyed Peas!
6 Mar - Poor GEM Tang can't seem to get a break, as she was recently humiliated by the crowd at the One Night Pop music festival for her supposed spontaneous performance with Black Eyed Peas.
According to Mingpao News, the singer was previously reported to have forced herself up the stage to perform "Where is the Love" with the group, passing through the organisers who weren't able to stop her.
The audience, who saw the commotion, started booing when GEM sang, and accused the singer of ruining BEP's performance - calling her singing "the worst part of the night".
However, GEM later clarified her situation online, saying that she was personally invited by group leader will.i.am via text message in the morning.
"In fact, I had wanted to come to see the show. But will.i.am sent me a text message in the morning and asked me to perform "Where is the Love" with them. I never thought that my first collaboration with Black Eyed Peas would be so spontaneous!" she said.
She also reiterated her response with the media, saying that she sent will.i.am a short message to wish him a good show at first.
"[I asked him] that they better perform "Where is the Love". But they sent the lyrics to me, so there was this improvisation. Nobody knew beforehand," she said.
