GEM Tang criticised for the lack of Cantonese songs
16 Jan – It seemed that the media treatment was not the only criticism GEM Tang received throughout her "GEM X.X.X. Live World Tour" held at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
According to a report on Mingpao News, the singer, who previously confessed of missing her Hong Kong fans, sang only six Cantonese songs out of more than 20 songs arranged for the show. Instead, most of the songs are in Mandarin with one or two English songs added into the mix.
Fans also criticised that the whole show was more or less a copy of her "I am A Singer 2" performances rather than an actual show, and that GEM had also forgo "Where Did U Go", the song that brought her to fame in Hong Kong in the first place.
Another criticism about the concert concerns the concert wristbands.
It was revealed that the concert has restricted fans from bringing any glowsticks from home into the venue, and only allows space glow wristbands, which were sold outside the venue at a stiff price of HKD280 (approximately USD36.12).
Fans who bought the HKD1889 and HKD898 tickets were provided with the wristbands, but only the most expensive ticket-holders were allowed to bring it home, while the HKD898 ticket-holders had to return it at the end of the show so that the company can reuse them for the fans of the next concert.
When asked to address the criticisms about the wristbands, GEM admitted that she was also shocked about the price but stressed that the production cost was expensive.
