First Look: This Air Jordan 17 Returns for the First Time In 23 Years
After the Air Jordan 17 Retro Low became one of 2024’s unexpected hit sneaker releases, Jordan Brand is set to revisit the model with another original colorway next year.
Images of a 2025 Air Jordan 17 Retro Low in the original “Black/Chrome” style have surfaced on social media. The pair appears to feature all of the same elements from the shoe’s original 2002 release including a smooth black leather upper with a glossy black croc material filling in the eyestay.

Accents are minimal, appearing only on the silver-coated eyelets and the heel’s metallic chrome detailing, which is covered with a protective sticker in the images seen here. Portions of blue and white appear on the outsole, but the design is otherwise a fully black-and-chrome look.
The “Black/Chrome” Air Jordan 17 Low was one of three original colorways of the low-top sneaker that were released in 2002. The other two pairs, “Lightning” and “University Blue,” were both released in ’24 to a surprising amount of fanfare.
The late-teen Air Jordan models have historically underperformed at retail, but Jordan Brand strategically tightened up the distribution on the ’24 Low releases. Designated as SP (Special Project) releases, the shoes were not released on Nike’s SNKRS platform and were only sold through select independent retailers. Each pair came packaged in a metal briefcase, an accessory which accompanied original Air Jordan 17s but was not included with the original Lows. Despite this slight revisionist history, most fans were just happy to see the briefcase come back.
With two of three original Air Jordan 17 Lows already rereleased, the third pair is set to join the group in ’25. Retail pricing of $300 is expected, although the details have not yet been confirmed by the brand. This story will be updated as more information is announced.
