Famous bak chor mee stall Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles moves back to original area at Serangoon
Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles has been doing quite a bit of traveling around Singapore. Famously known for its vinegary bowls of minced meat noodles, its food has warranted stretching queues from long ago. After moving to 4 different locations since 2016, the stall that is well-loved nationwide will be moving back to its original area between Opal Crescent and Moonstone Lane.
Although the stall will not be moving back to its old location, it would still be situated in one of the coffee shops at the junction of those two lanes. They will start its operations from 1 Feb 2023.
After the announcement of Uncle Yap’s (the original owner) rumoured retirement in 2016, Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles has since jumped from place to place. Uncle Yap’s sister has been handling the Bukit Batok outlet, while young disciples have been running the Tai Thong outlet. He also moved to open a stall at Marsiling in Oct 2022.
A patron who visited the Marsiling outlet on 17 Jan 2023 witnessed Uncle Yap dismantling the stall himself, only to find out the good news that he will be relocating and proceeded to post it online. Those who have been craving bak chor mee for the longest time can finally claim a bowl in a central area.
Despite announcing his intentions to rest, Uncle Yap seems to be doing the exact opposite of retirement. It doesn’t seem like he’s planning to retire after all because of his active role in all his stalls! With over 30 years of experience making bak chor mee, cooking is ingrained in him and hence, it is probably why he is still involved heavily in the movement of the stalls.
Said to be one of the “best bak chor mee in Singapore”, one of their must-haves in the 小碗面 Xiao Wan Mian. Priced at S$6, you will get a dish of springy noodles and a loaded bowl of soup.
The mee pok noodles are served to al dente perfection, soaked in a concoction of sauces such as vinegar and chilli. On the other hand, the soup comes loaded with ingredients. You can see this from how the ingredients are presented afloat.
The cloudy broth is filled with minced pork, sliced pork, pork liver, fish cake, fish dumpling, and even a raw egg (which gets cooked in the broth).
