A kitchen renovation is a breath of fresh air for your home. But it certainly isn’t a breath of fresh air for your routine. Big projects like this take time—and rarely finish on the date you planned. As a result, you can bet on not having a usable kitchen for weeks (or months) on end. We don’t blame you if the idea of cooking on a hot plate in the living room and washing up in the bathtub has turned you off a big project.
However, we just came across the perfect solution for this problem: Kitchen Cubes, trailers outfitted with everything your kitchen has and more. This British company rents units that operate like a kitchen on wheels. Park a Kitchen Cube in your driveway, and you have everything you need to cook and clean up—and even do laundry. No more running to your in-laws house to wash clothes or keeping UberEats in business buying takeout three times a day.
Joe and Izzie, a married couple based in Gloucestershire, England, are the geniuses behind this idea. According to the Kitchen Cube website, Joe’s career as a carpenter motivated the couple to create the mobile kitchens.
Each unit has an oven, cooktop, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine, heating, electrical outlets with USB plugs, and more. You simply hook it up to your home’s power and water supply, just as you would an RV. The essential package includes delivery and setup. If all of your kitchen gear is in storage, you might want the comfort package, which adds on a microwave, toaster, and supplies like pots and utensils. You can reserve one for one to three weeks or longer—the cost per week is about $500.
So far, Kitchen Cube is generating a lot of interest on social media, mostly from people who wished they’d had exactly this when they did their kitchen remodel. “I didn’t have a kitchen for 8 months *crying*,” one viewer commented under the business’s official Instagram account. Another user commented, “Okay, this is an incredibly genius idea! We are currently in the midst of renovating our kitchen & the mental math & emotional load of figuring out meal time & regular routine is hard!!! Definitely keeping this saved for future projects!”
Kitchen Cubes are available only in the U.K. for now, but we sense an opportunity for a entrepreneur in the U.S. Investment opportunity, anyone?
