Eugene Tang admits challenge playing young Alan Tam

22 Jun – Hong Kong's newcomer Eugene Tang recently admitted that playing the role of young Alan Tam was challenging for him as someone who is not that familiar with the Hong Kong music scene of the past.

As reported on Mingpao, the GTM member, who is making his movie debut with Anthony Chan's "House of the Rising Sons", shared that he didn't know much about Alan and his group The Wynners due to the fact that he grew up in Canada.

"Initially, I thought Alan and [Sam hui] were a combination. I relied on my mother as a fan of Alan to tell me more about him," he said, adding that he spent a lot of time listening to Alan's songs in preparation for the role.

The work was made harder by the director, who didn't allow them to meet the real members of the group so not to affect their acting performance.

In addition, Eugene admitted that his proficiency in Cantonese wasn't that good as well, making it overall a tough project.

The upcoming film is set to make its global premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival on 2 July.
