Drag legend Sherry Vine has been making audiences laugh for over 30 years

Drag legend Sherry Vine (@misssherryvine) has been pushing boundaries with her edgy performances and song parodies for over 30 years, and she still loves to perform just as much as she did when she started.

“After 30-something years of performing as Sherry Vine, I still love it as much as I did from the first day. I feel like I’m doing what I am supposed to be doing, what I’m meant to do,” Sherry says.

A performer from a young age, Sherry discovered her love for drag while in graduate school, studying theater. The passion has since developed into a career and evolved as Sherry has realized what she does well and how she stands out from other drag performers. “I love that there’s so much diversity in drag; otherwise, it would be really competitive and boring very quickly,” she says.

In her own words, “Sherry Vine is a cougar, broken-down ex-showgirl with a heart of gold,” and an aesthetic she describes as “Hooker Barbie” with voluminous blond wigs that have evolved throughout her career. The Sherry Vine show is mostly a comedy show, comprised mainly of song parodies, adult themes and silliness to give audiences permission to let go and laugh.

Outside of drag, Sherry goes by Keith — yet keeps Sherry Vine at the center of everything. A self-proclaimed “workaholic,” Keith prepares for the drag life by readying costumes, practicing songs and studying lines every day.

“My wish is to make people laugh and have a form of escapism,” Sherry says. “And I do get the fact that I’m singing silly parodies. It’s not changing the world, but I think if it can make someone who’s really having a bad day feel good, then it is changing the world.”
