Design Shanghai’s New Collectible Art Fair to Bow in October

MILAN — The number of Chinese collectors continues to rise. As a result, Design Shanghai is gearing up to launch a new fair dedicated to limited-edition works of art and design pieces from across the globe.

On Tuesday, organizers said Design Shanghai Collectible Exhibition’s inaugural edition will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2. With the involvement of numerous galleries, artists and designers throughout China and the world, the exhibition will unfurl an array of treasures and inspirational pieces.

“In today’s China, there is a growing accumulation of wealth, with an increasing number of enterprises and individuals expressing their personality and taste through the collection of internationally acclaimed limited edition works,” organizers said in a statement.

Highlights for the 2024 fair will include a showcase dedicated to contemporary design and craftsmanship by Jingdezhen, China-based Adrian Choi Design Studio, a presentation on the professional approach to engaging with the contemporary art sector by Shanghai-based gallery Sailing Space, a studied look into the artistic language of contemporary art and its emerging forces by Shenzen, China’s Isle Gallery and the participation of Jingdezhen’s Yanshan Art Museum, which was founded by contemporary ceramic artist Li Yanxun.

Design Shanghai, Asia’s largest international design fair, saw its 11th edition bow June 19 to June 22. The four-day event welcomed more than 80,000 visitors and 600 local and international brands from 40 countries to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre. Denmark-based design firm Gubi, Italian outdoor furniture maker Ethimo, Italian furniture and lighting brand Gervasoni, U.S. kitchen and bath firm Kohler, U.K. porcelain and fine china maker Wedgwood and others explored themes such as how sustainable design plays a fundamental role in shaping the future.
