Coty and Etro Ink Long-term Beauty License

MILAN — Following its deal with Marni, Coty Inc. has secured another Italian fashion brand in its portfolio by partnering with Etro.

The two companies have signed an agreement for the production and distribution of Etro fragrance lines and home scent collections beyond 2040. The two parties will work together to also explore new categories to further grow the fashion brand’s beauty portfolio.

Sue Nabi, Coty’s chief executive officer, described Etro as “an iconic brand with a long-standing heritage of excellence that is reflected across every facet of its business.”

“This agreement further underscores Coty’s focus on fashion-driven licenses with significant multicategory potential which resonate with consumers in our key markets. We are excited to collaborate with Etro, building on the brand’s existing beauty offering and bringing its unique brand identity to life through new categories and launches,” said Nabi.

This is the first beauty license for Etro as the brand’s fragrances have been developed in-house until now. Introduced in 1989 and triggered by a personal passion for natural scents under the guidance of the fashion house’s founder Gerolamo Etro, the line includes signature perfumes in ornate glass bottles and with evocative names like “Shantung” or “Paisley,” nodding to the company’s textile heritage and globetrotting spirit.

Etro’s CEO Fabrizio Cardinali said the deal “marks another invigorating chapter for Etro as we continue to bolster the evolution of our beauty portfolio.”

“The collaboration will enable us to leverage synergies between our companies while taking advantage of Coty’s expertise and industry leading capabilities,” continued the executive. “We are looking forward to working with the Coty team to explore ways of developing our beauty presence in a way which is authentic to Etro, further strengthening our ability to meet the dynamic and ever-evolving demands of our consumer across different markets.”

This is only the latest in a string of licensing agreements the brand has signed over the past year, following deals with Safilo Group for eyewear and manufacturing company Simonetta for the Etro Kids line. The company has been beefing up its product offering since private equity firm L Catterton acquired a majority stake in Etro in 2021. The following year, Marco De Vincenzo was appointed creative director for all the house’s lines.

As for Coty, in prestige it has licenses with Gucci, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Marc Jacobs, Chloé, Davidoff, Tiffany & Co., Joop, Jil Sander, Roberto Cavalli and Escada, among others. Its Miu Miu license wasn’t renewed, though, as the Prada Group label has recently joined the L’Oréal Luxe division, as reported.
