This cinema in KL offers a unique dine-in hotpot experience – a 1st in Malaysia
A growing trend in China since the start of this year, Dadi Cinema in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur is now offering its first-ever hotpot cinema. Yes, you read that right – you’ll now be able to enjoy your movie while savouring a warm, comforting bowl of hotpot.
Recently announced on their social media, they just hosted their inaugural hotpot cinema session during the premiere of “The Unwavering Brotherhood”, and unsurprisingly, it was a resounding success.
However, they haven’t yet mentioned when it’ll be available to the public, so keep your eyes peeled as it could be just around the corner!
Photos posted by Dadi Cinema showed their first batch of moviegoers enjoying hotpot at the cinema’s Star+ Hall. Tables full of hotpot ingredients and personal pans were set up in front of them as they cosied up on the cinema’s twin recliner chairs.
Additionally, you’d get your choice of soup bases – between mala, tomato, and chicken collagen.
While it sounds like a novel and intriguing experience, some netizens have expressed concerns regarding safety and hygiene standards, questioning whether this offering is a good idea in the long run.
Some comments mentioned how this could attract cockroaches and other pests, as well as concerns about lingering odours in the theatre, which we all know is not a very well-ventilated area.
Others also commented on the issue of dining in the dark with hot soup, which could be potentially dangerous, especially for those who are clumsy or have difficulty seeing in low light.
While we’re sure Dadi Cinema will address these concerns, we can still appreciate the idea of enjoying hotpot while comfortably watching your next favourite film. Who knows? Maybe this concept could come to Singapore soon – all of us hotpot fanatics would definitely jump at that opportunity.
