20 Nov - Veteran actor Chung King Fai, who was recently revealed to have been diagnosed with first stage colorectal cancer, assured that he is doing much better now.
In an interview with Mingpao News recently, the 79-year-old actor, who underwent minimally invasive surgery earlier, shared that he is one of the lucky ones who was able to detect the disease before it becomes worse.
He disclosed that it all started on what was supposed to be an ordinary checkup. The doctor suggested Chung to undergo physical examination after realising the change of colour on his face. That is how he was later diagnosed with stage one colorectal cancer.
"I am lucky that I didn't need chemotherapy or other surgery. All I have to do is to go to my follow-up appointments. I was able to move slowly a week after surgery," he said.
As for his work in TVB sitcom "Dinner at 8", Chung stated that there will be a change in the script to accommodate him.
However, he admitted to feeling a little bit disappointed not being able to work on his stage play, "Tuesdays with Morrie", saying, "I have done 125 performances, so of course I am disappointed. But I'm also afraid I will not be able to focus otherwise."
"Right now, I am in the position where I may not be able to give my best. The doctor told me to take a long break after the surgery, and I would rather listen to his advice," he added.
Chung also plans to reduce his work after recovery.
