Chiung Yao, beloved Queen of Chinese romance writing, passes away

5 Dec - Beloved Taiwanese writer and producer Chiung Yao has recently passed away.

The romance writer's body was found at her residence in New Taipei City, with the death suspected to be suicide.

Her 63-year-old son reportedly shared that Chiung has left a farewell note.

Regarded as the most popular romance writer in the Chinese-speaking world, Chiung Yao's novels have been adapted into more than 50 films and television series, including the hit drama, "My Fair Princess" and "Fantasies Behind the Pearly Curtain".

Her final published work before her death was "Wo De Gushi" (aka "My Story"), released by Writers Publishing House. In the postscript, she wrote, "I have always believed in love! To me, the word love encompasses a wide spectrum - country, society, family, friends, readers, fans... I have always given and received abundant love! This life has been truly meaningful!"

Many celebrities who have worked with Chiung Yao took to social media to express their griefs, with Ruby Lin, who has starred in a few of her works, telling the media that the writer was her first benefactor in life.

"I am still processing my emotions," she added.
