It’s been a minute since a celebrity-backed spirit has dropped, so perhaps you’ve been wondering when the next one will arrive. Well, here’s another for you to consider. Woody Harrelson has partnered with health and wellness entrepreneur Amy Holmwood on a new brand called Holistic Spirits, which debuted with a vodka and gin that are both flavored with botanicals.

Now, it bears repeating: Alcohol can be delicious when enjoyed responsibly, but it is not healthy, full stop. Holmwood addressed this issue in a press release, saying, “No alcohol will ever be healthy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be more conscious of what we’re putting in our bodies while we enjoy spirits, in whatever setting that may be.” Still, there’s a lot of talk about the process and ingredients that went into these spirits providing “a better way to drink.” And at a recent press event in New York City, Harrelson—known for being a great actor, vegan, environmentalist, and offering some vaccine skepticism on national television—joked that he can’t legally say “superfood” when referring to the spirits, but they are packed with some pretty super ingredients.

This project was a long time coming for Holmwood, who has a master’s degree in biotechnology enterprise from John Hopkins and a nutrition sciences certification from the Stanford Center for Health Education. After years of tinkering, she and her team settled on a recipe in the spring of 2022. Then Harrelson got a taste, and the rest is history. “For years I’ve wondered who was going to come along and put my favorite superfoods into spirits,” he said in a statement (there’s that reference again). “I think it’s a marvelous thing that Amy came up with, and I admire her sense of purpose. It was a no-brainer to get involved from the start.”

The base spirit for Origen (the vodka) is made from organic white wheat, and the base spirit for Harmony (the gin) is made from organic corn. According to the brand, each is infused with a proprietary blend of artichoke leaves, elderberries, green tea leaves, and muscadine grapes. Harmony also uses a botanical mixture of juniper berries, coriander seed, hyssop, lemon peel, lime peel, angelica root, and orris root to define its flavor. Both spirits have no artificial color, flavoring, or sugar added and are bottled at 37 percent ABV.

Origen Vodka and Harmony Gin are available to purchase now online from ReserveBar, and you can find them at stores in select states.
