Fans of Japanese food are in for a treat, as the much-anticipated Japan Gourmet Hall SORA will officially open at Changi Airport Terminal 2 on Tuesday (14 November).

Occupying 7,760 sq ft of space, this will be the largest restaurant across all four terminals of Changi Airport. The 300-seater food hall will house six Japanese restaurant brands that serve dishes such as ramen, sashimi, tendon, okonomiyaki, and fusion Japanese food, desserts and beverages.

The six restaurant brands include Tendon Kohaku, Menya Takeichi, Kuro Maguro, Tokyo Sundubu, Tsuruhasi Fugetsu and Japoli Kitchen.

There is also a bar, SORA Bar, where customers can order desserts, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages such as sake and the Singapore Sling.

All the tables at the food hall come with charging points, and for those who want to immerse themselves further in Japanese culture while dining, there are tatami seating options available.

Earlier in August, Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore reported that Japan Gourmet Hall Sora is a joint venture between SG Retail Partners, ANA Trading and Komars Group, who are also behind the multi-concept dining enclave, Eat At Seven, at Suntec City.

This is the first time that ANA Trading – the trading arm of Japanese airline company, All Nippon Airways, is operating a food hall outside of Japan. The name, SORA, translates to “sky” in Japanese.

According to Kazuhiro Nakao, project director of retail business development for ANA Trading and director of SG Retail Partners, the new food hall is part of the company’s strategy to expand its business in the South East Asia region.

James Fong, vice president of Landside Concessions at Changi Airport Group, said, “We are pleased that ANA Trading has chosen Changi Airport as the world’s first airport outside Japan to launch SORA, bringing together the best of Japanese cuisine, ambience and service.”
