Chanel designer Virginie Viard took inspiration from the French seaside resort town Deauville and sent models in tweed suits, huge sun hats and long coats. “Deauville is where everything started for the House. 1912, the creation of her hat shop and then very quickly the first clothes with their visionary, radical style. It’s where it all began for Gabrielle Chanel. This story is very close to my heart,” confides Viard. On the racecourse, on the seaside, at the gaming table, in restaurants and palaces, on the “Planches” boardwalk: everything is about elegance and self-staging.

Among some of the celebrities in attendance included Blackpink's Jennie, actress Gwei Lun Mei, Wang Yibo, Penelope Cruz, Naomi Campbell and more.

From Barista to Boss: The Inspiring Story of Finally Coffee's Founder

Finally Coffee opens at 695A North Bridge Rd. PHOTO: Finally Coffee
Finally Coffee opens at 695A North Bridge Rd. PHOTO: Finally Coffee

Behind every start-up or local business, there's always an inspiring story of grit, perseverance and passion. For local start-up Finally Coffee co-founder Lyon, the entrepreneurial seed was planted at an early age when his father was retrenched after devoting decades to a company. Emboldened by his passion in F&B, Lyon armed himself with a skill in pastry and then worked full-time at Starbucks to gain on-ground experience. Thereafter, he saved hard in his four years as a Grab driver.

Throughout these periods of his life, Lyon kept at his entrepreneurial dream. Starting as a pop-up, the overwhelmingly positive response from patrons provided the validation they needed to take the plunge into permanence, culminating in the establishment of Finally Coffee as a permanent fixture in February 2023.

Together with his partner, Corrinne, their combined knowledge and experience led to the conceptualisation of Finally Coffee, a cafe offering quality brews using the top 1% of Arabica beans, as well as a selection of mouth-watering pastries and cakes.

Finally Coffee is at 695A North Bridge Rd, Level 2, Singapore 198674.

Ye Jewelry presents the Painters Collection, a new range of fine jewelry

Ye Jewelry presents the Painters Collection, a new range of fine jewelry inspired by the textures of brushstrokes in art movements. (PHOTO: Ye Jewelry)

Founded in New York City, Ye Jewelry is made by Lydia Yap, a Singaporean and graduate of the jewelry program at Fashion Institute of Technology. She makes custom jewelry and collections retailed at design stores or at pop-ups, the most recent being Boutique Fairs 2023.

Her latest range, the Painters Collection, Yap's yearning for the masterpieces she used to see in museums in New York where she lived, and these pieces create a closer physical access to those memories. One may be able to identify a semblance of the masters' strokes in each piece - Claude Monet in the Impressionist Ring, Vincent Van Gogh in the Post-Impressionist Ring, Fernand Leger in the Modernist, Salvador Dali in the Surrealist Ring, Georges Seurat in the Pointillist Ring, and Joan Mitchell in the Abstract Expressionist Earrings.

To create these textures, Lydia studied the brushstrokes of masterpieces up close and recreated her versions of them in the form of wax carvings. The carved models were then cast in silver or gold via the lost wax casting process.

Without colour, texture and movement become the main element. Paintings are generally classified as two-dimensional works of art, but when seen from its profile the viewer might notice the details of its texture, such as an uneven surface of bumps or elongated streaks of paint. This brings a third dimensionality to the flat painting and a sense of tactility along with it, an experience not possible from a distance or through a screen.

This collection consists of five rings, an ear cuff and ear climber, each possessing a different style of painting. These gender-neutral pieces are made with your choice of 18K gold or nickel-free 925 sterling silver and may be worn as wedding or everyday jewelry.

Lifebuoy, the leading hygiene soap brand, announced the 'Highlympics', a challenge and initiative focusing on preventive health. In collaboration with Doctor Anywhere (DA), the 'Highlympics' campaign offers fully subsidised health screenings.

This initiative comes at a crucial time in light of findings from a Lifebuoy – DA preventive health survey which revealed that a staggering 60% of respondents had not undergone any health screenings in the past 12 months. In fact, the prevalence of high blood cholesterol among Singapore residents has been on the rise, marking an increase from the statistics recorded in 20173.

Addressing this, the primary goal is to encourage consumers, especially the younger demographic, to foster a proactive mindset towards preventive health and health screenings. The campaign also emphasises that despite a healthy outward appearance, underlying issues may persist due to factors such as diet, stress, and lifestyle choices.

To ensure accessibility, Lifebuoy has introduced a convenient method: consumers can scan a QR code sticker found on Lifebuoy's body wash bottles to register for their fully subsidised health screening through the Doctor Anywhere platform.
