Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2023: What shoppers need to know
We've started to see sales across some popular brands and retailers after 11.11, and we'd recommend you to start shopping instead of waiting till Cyber Monday.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) are the two biggest shopping events that have made its way to our shores, thanks to the likes of Amazon Singapore, but what do Black Friday and Cyber Monday stand for?
The term 'Black Friday' was coined decades ago as a way to attract bargain-toting crowds in the US and UK – who've taken the day off after Thanksgiving – to physical stores. Cyber Monday was actually coined in 2005 as a virtual event to manage long queues and crowds after the success of Black Friday.

Black Friday vs. Cyber Monday: Which deals are better?
(Updated)
Generally, the Yahoo Shopping team has observed bigger discounts on Cyber Monday as retailers load off their products in time for the following product cycle. However, if shoppers wait until Monday to cart out their intended product, we often see the said product go out of stock.
Categories that you'll see significant discounts on are electronics, television, appliances, fashion, beauty and groceries in those two days. Sometimes it's better to wait till Cyber Monday for 'safer' products like sneakers, fashion and beauty, but we would advise you to take advantage of the deals on Black Friday itself as most retailers push out major deals then.
Brands and products that you'll see discounts on this year are Apple AirPods and Google smart home products.
