What I tried at The Best Brew
I don’t know about you, but having a bit of everything always works for me. After all, variety is the spice of life, ain’t it? My eyes were instantly drawn to the Surf N’ Turf (S$55++) on the menu and I knew we had to try it!
This loaded platter is perfect for sharing between 2 people. Perched on a wooden board were slices of beef sirloin steak with black pepper gravy and a slab of salmon with hollandaise sauce on the side.
There was also deep-fried calamari, cheesy pork sausage, seasonal vegetables, and spam fries served straight from the can they came in (how cute is that?).
The presentation of the beef was so beautiful that I couldn’t help but take a moment to admire it. Cooked to a perfect medium-well, each piece of sirloin steak was resonantly beefy and naturally sweet. With each chew, I enjoyed the fatty parts that were yummy and melted in my mouth instantly.
Savour the meat as it is, or pair it with the lightly-spiced black pepper sauce. Whether you choose to dunk the meat in or let the gravy cascade over the ensemble of sliced beef is entirely up to you. I did both!
The luscious sauce added a light richness to the meat and had mild peppery notes that lingered on my tongue briefly. If you’re not a beef eater, no sweat! You can also swap it for a yummy chicken chop.
We moved on to the salmon next. Its surface had specks of black pepper that not only added a tinge of heat but also boasted a gritty texture. With a gentle tug of my fork and knife, its delicate, flaky flesh fell apart effortlessly like melted butter.
The salmon was moist and the seasoning penetrated every crevice and scrap of the flesh evenly.
Just when I thought that the salmon was good on its own, the true magic happened when I brushed a creamy dollop of hollandaise sauce over it. The slight acidity and creaminess took the experience up a notch— talk about raising the bar!
The crispy casing of the cheesy pork sausage gave way to a juicy, flavourful filling that had the right amount of snap and tenderness.
Once I popped one of the crispy fingers of the spam fries into my mouth, it was hard to stop at just one. Each bite delivered a savoury, nostalgic goodness, making it an irresistible snack.
The deep-fried calamari was perfectly coated in a crisp, golden-brown breading that encased a succulent interior, creating a satisfying contrast in every mouthful.
The platter also came with a medley of seasonal veggies that included roasted carrots, broccoli and zucchini. Simple and delicious with a garlic-herb seasoning, the vegetables acted as a refreshing palate cleanser, preventing the meal from getting too jelak.
As a treat for Sethlui.com readers, you can now get 20% off the Surf N’ Turf when you reserve it using this link.
Beer lovers should definitely go for the Tall Tale Pale Ale. Not only will you be supporting local brands, but it’s also Four Points Singapore’s exclusive brew that’s not available anywhere else.
The smooth medium-bodied pale ale greets your taste buds with a floral aroma coupled with a gentle hoppy finish; incredibly easy to drink!
The best part? With any order of the Surf N’ Turf platter, you can score a bucket of 6 of this local brew for just S$50! That’s less than S$9 per bottle for a limited-edition beer— definitely worth it!
If you’re a die-hard fan of Starbucks, you can savour your favourite Mocha (S$8/S$9), Classic Hot Chocolate (S$7/S$8) or an ice-cold Latte Macchiato (S$7/S$8) over here, too.
