5 must try restaurants in Bamboo Hills with gorgeous scenery and delicious food

Bamboo Hills was established by the same group of people who built Bangsar South. This time, the goal is to create a space for city folk to stop, breathe, and live in the moment. Everybody needs to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of city life every once in a while, even if it’s just for just a couple of hours at a time.

Stretching across 16 acres of land, Bamboo Hills offers you a dining experience like no other. Enjoy your favourite food and beverages surrounded by lush trees, fresh air, and the low hum of moving water. Think of it as a large garden where you and your friends can go to eat wagyu and drink wine.

They also have an event space perfect for weddings and get-togethers. Guests can fully immerse themselves in the calm greenery under the clear sky.

Although their website states that Bamboo Hills plays host to 10 unique restaurants, only half of what’s been planned are open as of March 2023. Here are the 5 must try restaurants in Bamboo Hills with gorgeous scenery and delicious food.

1. Kampai Yakiniku (#P03A)

Kampai Yakiniku prides itself in serving premium Japanese cuisine using meat sourced from Nishiawa Farm, Tokushima. Their wagyu beef is certified halal, and the restaurant is pork and lard free. 

Yakiniku literally means “grilled meat”, and is a popular Japanese barbecue style. At Kampai Yakiniku in Bamboo Hills, customers get to experience authentic yakiniku surrounded by nature. 

This restaurant allows guests to choose from their wide selection of meat, from thick A5 Japanese Kuroge Wagyu Beef cuts like Tougarashi (RM80) and Zabuton (RM100), to Beef Tongue (RM55) and thin cut Misuji (RM120).

They offer sashimi as well, but not in the way you’re used to. Instead of the typical salmon and tuna slices you’d get at other Japanese eateries, Kampai Yakiniku has Wagyu Sashimi (RM60), thin cut Beef Liver (RM25), and Beef Heart (RM25).

Their seafood selection is limited, only consisting of 5 items including Scallops Grilled in the Shell (RM25), Norway Salmon Fillet (RM39)  and Tiger Prawn (RM39).

Rice dishes are available as well. You can check out their Wagyu Hot Stone Bibimbap (RM30), Spicy Oxtail Soup Rice (RM29), or the KAMPAI Favourite Wagyu Mabushi Rice (RM149)  that feeds 2 to 3 people.

2. Tap Room (#P10-1 & P10-2)

Tap Room is a microbrewery and restaurant that seats a whopping 500 people for an unforgettable dining experience under the stars. To provide the best quality food and drinks possible, Tap Room has joined forces with Pizza Duo and Paperkite.

Their menu features dishes from Tap Room’s own kitchen as well as Pizza Duo’s Neapolitan pizzas and Paperkite’s locally brewed craft beer. Tap Room offers a wide range of cuisine, from tapas and yakitori to pasta and local delights.

Here, you can feast on unique eats that you’ve probably never heard of, let alone tasted. Take your taste buds on an adventure by trying the Boquerones Montaditos (RM39.80), a dish of marinated cured Spanish anchovies paired with pickled sardines and roasted peppers on ciabatta

Tap Room - Gambas Al Ajillo

One of their highlights is the Pomo Squid Ink Pasta (RM43.80) that’s served with a whole grilled squid, ricotta cheese, pomodoro sauce, and bonito flakes. The plating of their food is extremely visually pleasing, with green garnishings and edible flowers, even if you’re just getting a sandwich.

Their pizza dough is double-fermented for over 72 hours to ensure a light crust, and they still maintain traditional techniques while levelling up with experimental flavours. Krapow (RM58), pizza topped with Thai basil chicken, fior di latte, bird’s eye chilli, crispy Thai basil, and fried egg is bound to please Thai cuisine lovers.

3. Ginger KL (#P05A)

On a mission to innovate contemporary cuisine, Ginger fuses Indian spices with modern Australian cooking, right here in the heart of Bamboo Hills.

The restaurant has 2 separate lunch and dinner menus, with only a few dishes that are available all day long. One of them is the Burnt Butter Ulam (RM27), which is a fresh take on traditional salads— local daun selom (also known as water celery), pomelo, berries, watercress, heirloom tomatoes, pomegranate, and pinenut nosette.

For the ultimate prawn flavour bomb, check out The Maharaja (RM99), a fresh linguine dish that features Udang Galah and prawn bisque. Sticking with the seafood, Amma’s Crab Rasam (RM35) is the perfect soup to warm you up on a cold and windy night.

Ginger KL - Beetroot Hummus Bowl

Brunch enthusiasts looking for something new should give the Bhangra Burger (RM40) a whirl. This burger uses a Kouign-Amann bun to sandwich together a piece of deep fried boneless chicken, coriander yoghurt, onion bhaji, and tomato chutney, and comes with sweet potato fries. 

If you have more of a sweet tooth, Ginger has a selection of indulgent brunch treats like Ginger’s Hotcake (RM30) that’s served with saffron honey, berries, caramelised nuts, and vanilla bean ice-cream. 

Dinner guests can try the Tandoori Skewers (RM36), Spanish Octopus (RM99), or the Harissa Lamb Cutlet (RM135)

3. Nok Yung (#P02-1)

Reflecting the pride they have in the food they serve, Nok Yung is the Thai word for “peacock”. This restaurant specialises in authentic Thai cuisine that will leave you wanting more.

Nok Yung offers not one, but two variations of tom yum. They have Tom Yum Talay (RM59), a hot and sour seafood soup, and Tom Yum Goong (RM69), which uses only prawns. Besides the usual green curry, the restaurant has Gaeng Khiao Waan Neua (RM99), otherwise known as Thai green curry with Australian wagyu.

Other standout eats include Goong Ob Woonsen (RM79), a Thai style claypot glass noodle dish with tiger prawns, and Khai Jeow Poo (RM129), a crispy omelette with crab meat. Don’t forget the Pad Pak Boong (RM19), which is stir-fried morning glory withThai belacan or oyster garlic sauce, and Pad Krapow Neua (RM79), stir-fried minced wagyu with holy basil.

They also have a dish called the Flaming Peacock (RM89)— but don’t panic, no peacocks are in danger! It’s just grilled whole chicken. Those dining in groups can order the Nak Yung BBQ Platter (RM129) to share. The platter comes with chicken, squid, prawn, and lamb.

And of course, a Thai eatery wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favourite stir-fried noodle dish: Pad Thai Goong (RM29)

5. Botanica + Co (#P09)

Botanica + Co is no stranger to the local food scene. It started off with one outlet in Bangsar South and has now branched out to 3 locations, including Bamboo Hills. This Bamboo Hills store acts as their flagship outlet and differs slightly from the other two— it highlights dishes produced on open-fire ovens and charcoal grills.

Residents of Kuala Lumpur are well-acquainted with Botanica + Co too. Even after years of operating, their restaurants still receive constant streams of customers.

Their brunch menu isn’t limited to the typical eggs-benedict-on-sourdough-bread menus you see at other brunch spots. They do offer their own iteration of a big breakfast— the Botanica Breakfast (RM45), but their options go beyond that.

Diners can start off with their homemade Rosemary Focaccia (RM19) served with balsamic dip, tomato salsa, and basil pesto. If you’re with a group of friends, pizza is always a good idea. Botanica + Co’s wood-fired oven pizzas come in unique flavours like Squid Roe & Peppers (RM58), Shakshuka Pizza (RM61), and Spanish Cecina Beef Pizza (RM80)

Their fresh handmade pastas come in 2 portions: 70g and 140g. Vegetarians can try the Mushroom Malloreddus (RM30 – RM51), a pasta dish made with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic butter, and truffle, while meat lovers can go for the Beef Cheek Conchiglie Rigate (RM34 – RM58).
