A$AP Rocky, Pedro Pascal, and More Celebs Rocked Gucci’s New Menswear at the LACMA Art + Film Gala

This year’s LACMA Art + Film Gala didn’t just spotlight two prolific creatives; it also saluted the new Gucci, too.

The 12th annual event, which took place on Saturday evening, celebrated filmmaker David Fincher and artist Judy Baca while raising $5 million for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The star-studded soiree, co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow, also served as an introduction to Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci men’s collection.

The Italian designer, who was named creative director of the Italian house in January after 13 years at Valentino, took the opportunity to showcase his new menswear on several A-listers. (Gucci was once again a presenting sponsor of the event.)

De Sarno’s designs appear to be far more subtle than those of his maximalist predecessor Alessandro Michele. Taking cues from the Italian suits of the 1990s, the new straight-cut tuxedos showcase square shoulders, sharp lines, and buttons inscribed with the signature interlocking G. Style-savvy rapper A$AP Rocky sported an understated black double-breasted tuxedo with a gray monogram tie and a pair of retro wraparound shades, while actor Elliot Page wore a white single-breasted tuxedo that was evocative of classic ‘90s designs.

That’s not to say that De Sarno’s men’s designs are devoid of drama, of course. Actor Andrew Garfield stepped out in a sleek single-breasted piped tuxedo finished in Gucci’s striking new house color, “Rosso Ancora.” Fellow actor Pedro Pascal opted for a double-breasted version in a shiny black hue rather than the deep red. The Last of Us star also decided to ditch a shirt in favor of a bare chest, adding a hedonistic edge to the suit. (An apparent Gucci guy, Pascal rocked a look from the house’s collab with Harry Styles earlier this year.)

Garfield, Pascal, and Rocky all stepped out in black leather lace-up derbies, while Page sported a pair of almond-toe creepers.

De Sarno showcased his first women’s collection during Milan Fashion Week in late September, but won’t present his inaugural men’s collection until January. If this little teaser was anything to go by, gents are in for some quintessentially ’90s treats. Stay tuned.
