Alice Chan admits Princess Taiping was a challenging role

14 Dec – To win TV Queen at the TVB Anniversary Awards this year could be a great thing for Alice Chan, as she admitted that playing a villain in "Deep in the Realm of Conscience" was one of the most challenging things she has ever done in her acting career.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who has been nominated Best Actress for her role as Princess Taiping in the said series, revealed that she never thought about doing a palace drama when the offer came to her, since there has been a lot of similar projects in the past.

"Plus, the role was quite domineering. It took time to do the make-up, the costumes, the lines... it took a lot of energy and one could only have six hours of rest every day," she said.

In actuality, said Alice, she only had three hours of sleep a day through the whole production, which lasted for half a year.

"But I was lucky to be given such a good role. Princess Taiping was not one-dimensional. She wasn't just bad for the sake of being bad. It was due to her situation," she said.

At the same time, Alice also acknowledged the fact that the competition for Best Actress is very stiff, especially from actresses like Ali Lee, Mandy Wong, and Nancy Wu.

"Ali's character in "Who Wants a Baby?" resonates with the viewers. She's a very competent actress. Nancy was given a difficult role in "Deep in the Realm of Conscience", and she really made a turning point," she said.

As for Mandy and her role in "Threesome", Alice admitted that the actress did a good job playing many characters.

"Everybody is equal in this sense. It's up to the audience to choose," she said.
