ABS-CBN confirms postponement of "Darna"

24 Aug – After much speculation, ABS-CBN finally released a statement about the fate of its long-delayed superhero movie, "Darna".

The network revealed that it still maintains the rights to the adaptation, though the project itself will be postponed indefinitely "after careful deliberation on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on movie production and cinemas".

ABS-CBN stated that while they are committed to the guidelines under the new normal, the movie's need of complex logistics, crowd shots, and fight scenes that involve physical contact would make it difficult for the production to strictly adhere to it.

"We are still in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis that makes it also difficult to assess when cinemas will recover and see audiences returning," they added, and proceeded to thank everybody involved in the project, as well as the Ravelo family and fans of the said superhero.

The film had been postponed time and time again since ABS-CBN acquired the right to the Mars Ravelo character in 2013, which started with the departure of lead actress Angel Locsin due to aggravated injury.
