75 Ah Balling takes over space of famous Tan’s Tu Tu Coconut Cake at Clementi

While we’re facing a high influx of hawker legends closing their stalls permanently, it’s nice to see old-school hawkers expanding their stalls around Singapore as well. Good news for dessert lovers as the famed 75 Ah Balling will be opening a store at Clementi!

Opened since 1975 at Golden Mile Food Centre, 75 Ah Balling is now helmed by 3rd generation owners, Alvin and Chloe. Under the charge of young new owners, they’ve introduced fresh flavours like matcha, yam and black sesame in the old-school Chinese dessert, ah balling.

In fact, it is quite rare to find hawker stalls that specifically specialise in ah balling only. At most hawker centres, you’d usually get a dessert stall that offers a spectrum of traditional dessert offerings. With this outlet in Clementi, they will be opening their soon-to-be 6th outlet. Kudos to them for retaining (and expanding) nostalgic foods!

Roofed under See Lam Hern Coffeeshop at 449 Clementi Ave 3, 75 Ah Balling acts as a sweet addition to the current spread of stalls available. If the renovation process goes smoothly, this outlet is projected to finish in mid Apr 2023. Now, they’ve yet to move in completely.

Taking over the now closed Tan’s Tu Tu Coconut Cake, 75 Ah Balling is situated between the rojak and popiah stall. For those that are mourning Tan’s Tu Tu Coconut Cake’s closure at the Clementi outlet, don’t worry, they still have one at Havelock that’ll reopen in Jul 2023!

Aren’t you glad to know that a famous stall is taking over another famous stall? At least that fact consoles me.

For those who remember, 75 Ah Balling actually had an outlet in the Clementi neighbourhood many years ago, but unfortunately, it closed shortly after.

The ’75’ in their stall name might suggest that they date back to 1975. However, the humble business surprised many as they actually date back to 1947! They’ve now evolved from a pushcart to a hawker stall with many successful branches.

You can expect to choose from ginger soup, longan red date, peanut and almond milk as your base. To perfect these snacks, select your choice of flavoured tang yuan to pair with the broth.

For 3 pieces, it costs S$2.20, with the most expensive selection being S$3.20 for 6 pieces.

If you’re nearby, definitely pop by 75 Ah Balling for a quick perk-me-up snack or dessert.
