This $26.7 Million London Townhouse Has a Subterranean Wellness Center

Nothing says Notting Hill quite like a charming row of pastel-painted terrace houses. However, not all of the residences in this affluent London neighborhood look like they are straight out of a ‘90s rom-com. Take the newly built Collman House, for example, a Victorian-era abode with a stately brick facade and a secret wellness complex in the basement.

On the market for £21 million (or about $26.7 million), the palatial property is situated on Garway Road and measures close to 10,000 square feet. Altogether, the digs comprise six bedrooms and four bathrooms across its five floors. “Located in the heart of one of London’s most sought-after locations in fashionable Notting Hill, Collman House is an outstanding period home with many fantastic features,” Grant Bates, head of the private office at Hamptons in London, tells Mansion Global.

Collman House in London’s Notting Hill neighborhood is up for sale.

The Grade II-listed, circa-1850 home was extended and remodeled in 2019 by the UK-based architecture and design firm Newman Zieglmeier. The project included the addition of an L-shaped art gallery that adds the sleek modernity of glass, marble, and steel and links the existing structure to a pavilion within the landscaped back garden. Highlights of the original home include its oak parquet flooring, large sash windows, fireplaces, and an expansive reception room that’s lined with floor-to-ceiling glass panels. Downstairs, you’ll find an open living, dining, and kitchen area. Award-winning Martin Moore outfitted the kitchen, which includes hand-crafted marble countertops, a butler sink, and dramatic pendant lighting.

The residence combines modern materials such as glass, marble, and steel.

Newman Zieglmeier also revamped the basement, transforming the dank space into a subterranean oasis that holds a Goop-worthy wellness center. Along with an indoor infinity pool, a hot tub, and a Himalayan salt sauna and steam room, the sprawling complex is also decked out with a fully stocked gym and a locker room for changing. Rounding out this floor is a bar with “ample wine storage” and your own personal movie theater with a giant 127-inch screen.

The lower level holds an indoor pool, spa, and sauna.

Keeping the lower-level spaces from feeling dark and confined, “all additional underground spaces are linked to the outside, with numerous translucent elements supplying daylight to every corner of this deep excavation,” Newman Zieglmeier writes on its website.

Among the home’s additional modern comforts, according to the listing, there’s an elevator, a garage with a car lift, a home automation system, and extensive security.
