A 14-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed in the violence. Sixteen other victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, with 15 of them sustaining gunshot wounds, Tampa Police said in their statement.

"Many of the additional victims, who ranged in age from 18-27 years old, have been medically treated and released from the hospital," said Tampa Police's statement. "Five remain in the hospital, recovering from their injuries."

“We make arrests quickly and with a sense of urgency,” Chief Bercaw said in the Tampa Police press release. “If you commit a crime in Tampa, you are going to pay for it and you are going to be charged.”

It's not clear if Phillips has entered a plea or retained an attorney.

According to CNN, police are investigating to see if other shooters were involved after one of the two handguns that were recovered from the scene was identified as stolen.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor condemned Sunday’s shooting in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Yet again, a senseless loss of life by those choosing to settle a dispute with firearms,” she wrote. “Lives lost and others forever changed. To what end?”
