With that, I present to you 10 halal steamboat restaurants in the Klang Valley for a wholesome family night out because trust me, there’s nothing like fighting over the last piece of beef to strengthen the bond between family members.

1. RasaNya Steamboat

RasaNya Steamboat is a Nyonya-inspired steamboat restaurant dedicated to serving guests high quality ingredients while preserving the rich heritage of the Peranakan community. The restaurant adopts traditional Chinese, Malay, and Western flavours to bring their vision to life.

They have a total of 9 soup bases to choose from. The ones highlighted in the menu are Kak Nya’s Signature Black Truffle, a luxurious 12 hour slow-boiled broth that uses black truffle, wolfberries, enoki mushrooms, and cordyceps, as well as Ox Bone Pot, a rich beef broth. They also have Satay Celup Special Style, a chicken broth mixed with satay sauce, and Sedap-Nya Laksa, a laksa soup base.

RasaNya serves Steamboat Specials that you can’t get anywhere else. Check out their Kak Nya Otak-Otak Fish Balls (RM16), Handmade Cuttlefish Paste with Black Truffle (RM36), and Kak Nya Squid Ink Balls (RM18).

As a premium steamboat spot, the restaurant has Japanese Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Beef, Alaskan King Crab (RM118 per 110g), Fresh Oysters (RM29 a piece), and Sabah Coral Lobster.

2. Zu Chuan Hot Pot

Freshly opened Zu Chuan Hot Pot is muslim-friendly— they don’t serve pork, lard, nor alcohol.

The restaurant offers 3 different buffet options with varying price points. Their All Day Buffet is RM69.90 for adults and RM34.90 for children, while the Australia Wagyu Buffet is priced at RM199.90 per adult and RM99.90 per child. The Japan Wagyu Buffet is their most premium option, as adults and children dine for RM399.90 and RM199.90 respectively. Luckily, children under 90cm get to feast for free.

Zu Chuan has 8 types of broths for you to cook your meat and seafood in, like their Fish Maw Black Pepper Soup, Mala Soup, and Winter Melon Herbal Soup. The eatery’s steamboat and grill selection is the complete package, with seafood like flower crab, razor clams, and scallops, as well as marinated and unmarinated meat like lamb, beef, and chicken. 

You can also add on other items like Snow Meltique Beef (RM88), Spicy Mala Lobster (RM88), and Japanese Wagyu A5 (RM199).

3. The Steamboat Ketam Village

If you’ve been craving a hearty steamboat meal for a while but haven’t gone because everyone you know is busy, The Steamboat Ketam Village is the one for you. This restaurant stands out from the rest as they offer small hot pots perfect for those dining alone.

The only rule here is that you have to spend a minimum of RM20 for their steamboat. If you want to try out their grilled menu, it’s an additional RM11.90 for the special portable grill and hot pot. They have a total of 8 broths to choose from, such as tom yam, vegetable soup, pumpkin soup, tomato soup, clear, and creamy soup. For an extra RM5.90, you can try their special soups, which are curry and herbal soup. 

The Steamboat Ketam Village has a diverse range of sets, like the Japan Sabar Fish BBQ Set (RM48.90), Special Combo Seafood BBQ Set (RM48.90), New Zealand Sliced Lamb BBQ Set (RM48.90).

4. Asap Steamboat & Grill

Asap Steamboat & Grill has taken a more sustainable approach to building a restaurant by repurposing an old shipping container to house their guests and good food. It’s impossible to overlook this eatery— its walls are painted bright yellow and the space is decorated with even brighter green plants.

Their All You Can Eat Steamboat & Grill Buffet is priced at RM42 for adults and RM21 for children. Children below 6 and senior citizens above 65 dine for free! This buffet includes a variety of marinated meats like beef, chicken, and lamb, as well as mushrooms, vegetables, and much more.

However, the seafood selection is limited to items like cockles, fish, and clams. Prawns, squid, and crab are separate menu items that you’ll have to add on. Prawns start from RM14.60, squid starts from RM17.50, and 400g of crab will set you back RM22.50.

5. BBQ Town

BBQ Town in Mid Valley Megamall has an all-you-can-eat barbeque and Japanese shabu-shabu buffet suitable for families and groups of friends. 

This buffet is inclusive of free flow lamb, beef, chicken, housemade sushi and maki, and soft serve ice cream. For adults dining in during lunch hours (11am to 5pm), the buffet is priced at RM47.35 on weekdays and RM51.95 on weekends and public holidays. The dinner crowd (5pm to 10pm) can feast for RM55.45 on weekdays and RM60.10 during the weekend and on public holidays. Children get to dine for 50% off the buffet price at the time of entry.

6. Queen City Steamboat and Grill

Proudly serving the residents of Cheras, Queen City Steamboat and Grill is a steamboat buffet restaurant with prices that won’t break the bank. The walls may be painted a gloomy grey, but the neon lights that line the interior are more than enough to attract first timers. 

This restaurant would be a great spot for those dining in with family and friends as they can easily accommodate large groups, given that you contact them ahead of time. The prices are affordable too, at RM32.89 for adults, RM21.89 for children, and RM27.39 for senior citizens. 

If that isn’t enticing enough, children below 6 can dine for only RM1! Now that’s the definition of a good deal.

They serve all the items you need for a fulfilling steamboat and grill meal— marinated beef, chicken, and lamb, fresh prawns and squid, mussels and vegetables. As you’re given both a grill and a hot pot, you get to cook your food however you like— boil it in tom yum soup or grill it to perfection.

7. Ara Thai Buffet – Steamboat & Grill

Ara Thai Buffet prides itself in being the most affordable steamboat and grill spot in Petaling Jaya. Priced at RM29 for adults and RM15 for children aged between 4 and 12, this restaurant is perfect for large families or for anyone looking for the full steamboat experience on a budget.

The buffet offers items like marinated chicken and beef, seafood like prawns, clams, squid, and mussels, as well as a variety of leafy greens, fishball, tofu, and crabsticks. Customers get to fill drinks by the jug, making it easier for those dining in groups. They even have desserts for a lovely finish to your savoury feast. 

As pictured above, the pot of soup is placed in the middle of the grill to be surrounded by a ring of your grilled meat. This is your chance to play chef! Pay close attention to the food being cooked on the grill and in the pot— no one likes overcooked beef and mushy noodles.

8. Johnny’s Restaurant

Johnny’s Restaurant is a family-friendly Thai dining spot that serves delicious steamboat and à la carte dishes. 

You can choose between their 2 soup bases: chicken broth or spicy tom yum. To make things easy, the restaurant offers Thai steamboat sets. Set A (RM41.41) feeds 2 people and comes with 11 items including prawns, chicken fillet, Japanese tofu, seafood tofu, bee hoon, and vegetables. 

The other set is Set B (RM80.84) that’s suitable for groups of 4. This set comes with an additional 10 items, like shrimp ravioli, fresh fish, squid balls, glass noodles, and a wider selection of vegetables. 

Their à la carte menu is quite extensive too, covering all bases from rice and noodles to vegetables and poultry. They have Fried Glass Noodles with Prawn (RM9.24), Pad Kra Paw with Rice (RM9.24), Chicken Tom Yam with Bee Hoon or Kuey Teow (RM9.24), and Thai BBQ Chicken Wings (RM9.24 for 3 pieces).

9. Pak John Steamboat & BBQ

Everyone can dine at Pak John Steamboat & BBQ worry free as the franchise has been certified halal ever since they first opened their doors to the public in 2015.

They are a buffet-only restaurant that prides themselves in having over 160 choices to suit all taste buds. You’ll find  a wide range of marinated meats for you to grill, as well as thinly sliced lamb and beef to dip into your steamboat soup. Their restaurants also feature sauce basr where you can make your own concoction to dip your food into. 

On weekdays, the lunch buffet is priced at RM53.90 for adults, RM44.90 for students and senior citizens, and RM31.90 for children. For dinner, adults can dine at RM65.90 per person, while students and seniors feast for RM49.90, and children for RM33.90. During the weekend and public holidays, prices are fixed throughout the day at RM73.90 for adults, RM63.90 for senior citizens, and RM38.90 for children.

10. Suki-Ya

Although Suki-Ya has been serving Japanese style hotpot, sukiyaki, and shabu-shabu since 2008, the franchise still garners crowds who willingly wait in line for their unlimited buffet. 

Suki-Ya has 4 soup bases for customers to choose from. This includes Shabu-Shabu, a light konbu broth, Sukiyaki, a sweet soy-sauce soup, Miso soup, and Kimuchi, a spicy broth made using vegetables, miso, and kimchi.

Other than the classic steamboat selections like fish balls, cheese tofu, vegetables, and noodles, they also have thinly sliced lamb, beef, and chicken, which is what most patrons go for.

The prices here depend on the time and day. Lunch hours are from 11.30pm to 5pm, and dinner is from 5pm to 9.30pm. On weekdays, their buffet is priced at RM46.15 for lunch and RM56.60 for dinner. The prices go up on weekends and public holidays— RM50.80 during lunch hours and RM61.25 for dinner. Children between ages 5 to 11 get 50% off the regular buffet prices.
