10 muslim-friendly Korean BBQ spots in KL to live out your K-drama dreams

How many times have you been in the middle of watching a Korean show when all of a sudden the scene cuts to the characters enjoying a meal of grilled meat, kimchi and soju while they complain about their love lives? And how many times did you start salivating?

The barbeque culture is strong in South Korea. Even during the colder months, many streets are lined with clear tents for customers to feast on delicious grilled meat outdoors. Think of it this way— where we have mamak shops, they have barbeque restaurants.

Although there are many restaurants serving Korean barbeque here in Kuala Lumpur, most of them sell pork— bossam is a very popular dish after all. This makes it difficult for fellow muslims to get a taste of authentic Korean food.

If you’ve been searching high and low for grilled meat spots to visit with your friends and family, here are 10 muslim-friendly Korean BBQ spots in KL to live out your K-drama dreams.

1. Sweetree Restaurant

Sweetree - Storefront

Be sure to bring your appetite, as the restaurant has a policy which requires customers to order a minimum of 2 BBQ plates or 1 BBQ set per group.

They have a set that feeds 4 to 6 people called the BTSaranghae Set (RM119), a cheeky play on South Korea’s most famous boy band. This set comes with Argentina squid, Australian lamb, beef striploin, smoked duck, and chicken thigh.
