Chinatown Point stands out amongst a sea of colonial shophouses and vintage shopping malls in good-old Chinatown. The mall boasts a variety of cafes, small eateries, and restaurants ranging from Japanese delights to Thai food and hotpot.

I’ve scouted every floor of the shopping mall and put together a food guide showcasing the 10 best dining places to explore for food at Chinatown Point. Take your pick!

1. Wu Wang Guo (#03-09/10/11/12/13/14)

If you’re a hotpot fanatic looking for a late-night supper spot, look no further. Wu Wang Guo is the place for you.

Located on the 3rd floor of Chinatown Point, customers can look forward to a wide variety of insanely good soups, freshly-made ingredients and excellent service. To get a complete experience, get the Quart Pot which allows you to relish 4 of their soups.

Besides their newest soup base, the Golden Fish Maw with Pig Stomach Soup (S$7), try the WWG Collagen Beauty Soup (S$11), WWG Spicy Tom Yam Soup (S$7) and Nourishing Drunken Chicken Soup (S$8) too.

Make sure you get the Assorted Beef Platter (S$78.80), which comes with 4 types of beef: US prime short rib, beef brisket, Japan A5 Wagyu beef and sliced US beef. If it’s too much, you can choose to order them à la carte in half and full portions.

2. Kiwami (#02-38)

If you love the famed Japanese noodle dish, ramen, then Kiwami is the place to book a seat at. Utilising only the finest quality ingredients, their tonkotsu broth is painstakingly simmered for over 10 hours using only Japanese pork bones. Hokkaido wheat is used in the making of their noodles which matches perfectly with their broth.

What’s highly recommended is the Premium Kiwami Tonkotsu Ramen (S$13.90), which is their original-recipe pork broth ramen with toroniku cha shu (tender roast pork cheek).

The Japanese eatery also has interesting special varieties such as Yuzu Ramen (S$15.90) and Mala Ramen (S$16.90). You can even choose to go big with their add-ons such as Ramen Egg (+S$2), Mentaiko (+S$3.50) or Corn (+S$1).

If you’re dining in a group and are worried that some of your friends aren’t keen on ramen, you can rest assured. Kiwami’s diverse menu also features a variety of fried rice, mazesoba, and small bites like Age Tofu (S$4.90) and Truffle Edamame (S$4.90).

3. Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles (#01-43)

Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles is a Halal-certified noodle joint serving bowls of hand-pulled noodles with meat and a broth brewed with more than 15 spices. They have over 300 outlets across China and we are blessed to have a few branches here in  Singapore.

This particular dish was first created by the Muslim Chinese (Hui) community in Lanzhou, Gansu province in China. It has been passed on for generations since the Tang Dynasty. Their menu features 8 different varieties including the Signature Beef Noodles (S$10.90/S$13.90), Sauerkraut Beef Noodles (S$11.90/S$14.90) and Mala Beef Noodles (S$11.90/S$14.90).

If you’re a non-beef eater, there’s also the Dry Mushroom Noodles (S$10.90/S$13.90) and Dry Chicken Noodles (S$10.90/S$13.90).

What’s also interesting is that there are 8 different kinds of handmade noodles to take your pick. The options are: normal, thick, thin, thicker, leek leaf, small flat, flat and triangle.

4. 夸父炸串 (Kuafood Fried Skewer) (#B1-51C)

With over 2,000 stores worldwide like New York, Sydney and London, 夸父炸串 (Kuafood Fried Skewer) has earned themselves the title of “Top 10 snack brands in China” and offers a wide range of fried skewers.

The outlet at Chinatown Point basement is a small booth which is more for takeaways as seating is limited. To order, help yourself to a tray and select from the skewers displayed on the shelves.

For those who cannot live without meat, there are choices like Beef Skewers (S$2.70 for 3 pieces), Lamb Skewers (S$1.50 for 1 piece) and Pork Ribs (S$1.30 for 1 piece).

D’life Signature showcases vegetarian food in a new light, highlighting that they aren’t  necessarily drab and limited to the same old dishes. The menu offers boiled soups, stir-fried dishes, dim sum and pasta, all under one roof.

Enjoy a meatless meal as you indulge in popular dim sum favourites such as Char Siew Bun (S$4.20), Emperor Prawn Dumpling (S$4.80) and Gyoza (S$4.80). You’ll also be able to spot a plethora of rice dishes that are crowd favourites at zi char stalls.

To see if their vegetarian renditions taste like the actual dish, give the Salted Fish Fried Rice (S$7.50), KungPo Chicken Cube Rice (S$7), or Hainan Chicken Rice (S$6.50) a try. Popular Malaysian delights such as Penang Assam Laksa (S$7) and Penang Fried Kway Teow (S$7) are also available.

Never in a million years would I expect to find Mala Grilled Fish (S$20/S$30), Claypot Vinegar Trotter (S$14/S$20/S$26), and Black Pepper Duck (S$10/S$15/S$20) at a vegetarian establishment. But D’life Signature has all these awesome selections.

In addition, the menu also offers vegan items too. Hooray!

6. Nanbantei (#02-40)

Similar to the branch at Far East Plaza, Nanbantei at Chinatown Point immerses diners in the full yakitori experience. Apart from cosy dining booths, you’ll also find counter seats from where you can catch the grilling action by their chefs.

The skewer-centric menu revolves around a range of perfectly-seasoned meats, seafood and vegetables which are grilled over charcoal.

If you’re dining with a friend, get the Yakitori Course (S$41) which boasts 12 sticks of chicken, pork, seafood, beef and veggies. You can also order the Veggie Course (S$34) which comes with 10 sticks of assorted grilled vegetables like corn on the cob, onions, cherry tomatoes and more. Yums!

Sashimi lovers can enjoy the Bara Chirashi Don (S$18) during lunchtime. It comes with cubes of salmon, tuna and other seafood topped with vinegared rice. You can also consider the Unagi Don (S$18.50) which features a slab of eel that’s charcoal-grilled and brushed with homemade teriyaki sauce.

Sichuan cuisine is renowned to be bold and adventurous, possessing pungent and spicy flavours coming from the extensive use of garlic, chilli peppers and Sichuan peppercorns.

At Shu Yan Sichuan Cuisine, be prepared to be blown away by their wide selection of dishes that will surely leave you spoilt for choice. Indulge in their cold appetisers like Sichuan Style Pickles Cabbages (S$6.80) and warm ones like Hot & Sour Black Fungus (S$9.80) and Green Pepper with Century Egg (S$10.80).

When your appetite is all fired up, try their traditional dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken (S$16.80), Fried Beef with Cumin (S$25.80), and Special Sauce with Shredded Pork (S$19.80) (which lets you wrap slices of sauteed pork with bean curd skin). Fun!

I’ve not met anyone who doesn’t like dumplings. Tasty morsels of minced meat and vegetables stuffed with silky skin, seriously… what’s there not to love? At Dumprince Dumpling House, you can pair your love for dumplings together with their MSG-free collagen broth noodles.

This dumpling spot allows you to choose your preferred cooking method for your dumplings (chicken, prawn or mushroom). Whether it is boiled, pan-fried, deep-fried, served in Sichuan spicy style or doused in collagen dumpling soup, you’ll surely find your favourite one.

LULALA 卤•辣 is a takeaway booth with a few booth seats serving Chinese and Taiwanese-style street food favourites at a single spot. If you’ve been dying to travel to Taiwan to indulge in its delicacies but haven’t had the time… now you can (without even purchasing an air ticket).

The small establishment boasts several signature bowls such as Happy Braise Pork Rice (S$5.90), Popcorn Chicken Rice (S$7.20), Braise Pork Noodle (S$7.20), Clean Soup Noodle (S$7.90), and Spicy Soup Noodle (S$7.90).

To get your money’s worth, check out their Value Set Meals like the Happy A (S$8.80) which gets you a bowl of Happy Braise Pork Rice with an additional egg and a drink.

Besides Yishun Town Square and Downtown East, Segar Restaurant also has an outlet in Chinatown Point’s basement. This is a Halal-certified establishment specialising in Chinese-style zi char dishes.

If you’re on the lookout for easy meals or are rushing for time, you can tuck into their noodle dishes like the Seafood Dark Hokkien Mee (S$8) or Mee Goreng (S$6.50). There’s also rice options like Pineapple Rice (S$8), Beef Fried Rice (S$6.50) and Twin Fish Fried Rice (S$6.50).
