10 best date night food spots in Millenia Walk that can rival Suntec City

Millenia Walk may be outshined by its neighbouring mall (ahem, Suntec City) that boasts a bigger vicinity, more shops and brighter walkways. However, situated just a stone’s throw from Promenade MRT station, Millenia Walk can offer reputable dining options that are worthwhile for special evenings.

In the relatively quieter mall housing the huge Japanese supermarket Medi-Ya, one can expect shorter wait times and enjoy the serenity in one of these restaurants. This list includes 10 of the best restaurants in Millenia Walk where one may feel persuaded to tag along on your date!

1. Tenshima (#01-09)

tenshima - interior seating

Do not underestimate the cooking preparation and method used for tempura. Tenshima emphasises the importance of using quality seafood ingredients in addition to the proper frying technique when cooking this Japanese delight.

I love their attention to detail. The team focuses on minute changes of each season, thereafter selecting the most appropriate batter thickness and perfect oil temperature for the items served each day.

Their high-quality ingredients are sourced from different regions in Japan and include lesser-found items in Singapore. To enhance their natural flavours, quality oil is used to create a light but crispy battered exterior.

It would be painful to douse the beautiful fry into pools of sauce. Instead, the only seasoning used is specially selected salt. The final product is nothing short of authentic Japanese tempura.

2. Sushi Murasaki (#02-07)

Sushi Murasaki - interior

I believe Sushi Murasaki should be reserved for special moments only. It is an exclusive omakase dining concept that showcases the best seasonal fish, freshly flown into Singapore from Tokyo, Japan.

The team aims to encourage audiences to learn how to better enjoy Japanese cuisine on the little red dot. The friendly and warm service of the staff coupled with perfectly cooked meals intertwine and introduce a unique dining experience to guests.

Two different menus are offered for the lunch and dinner crowd respectively. While an a la carte menu is available during the day, the menu refines to an omakase course come sundown.

A lunch set that I would order for a substantial meal is the first menu item — Fuji (S$48). It comes with an appetiser, 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, miso soup and dessert.

For their omakase seating, only 3 menu items are listed. The price ranges from S$128 to S$250, depending on the amount of food you wish to consume.

3. Kyo Ya Dining (#01-11/12/13)

Kyo Ya Dining - collage of food items

Dark contemporary dining experience — that is the concept that Kyo Ya Dining strives to provide.

With every Japanese meal, begin with freshly sliced sashimi. Expect thick slices and melt-in-your-mouth textures from the Toro Sashimi (S$55), Hotate Sashimi (S$19) and Shake Sashimi (S$16).

After your taste buds have been tantalised, dive straight into their mains. Wagyu Teppan A4 (S$58) featuring grilled wagyu beef with garlic butter? Who can say no to that? Otherwise, the Lamb Fagura (S$26) may be an excellent choice, too.

As the best alcohol companion, the Kushiyaki selection will not fail to satisfy. Go for the Kyo-Ya Kushiyaki Moriawase (S$32) to taste 9 different flavours, textures and seasonings.

They take pride in their selection of premium booze which is mostly from the House of Suntory. Indulge in their wide range of options such as beer, gin, vodka, whisky, shochu, and wine. A huge selection of Japanese sake is also available on site.

4. Nozomi (#02-06)

nozomi - sushi box

Japanese-style aesthetic restaurant with wooden furnishings and a well-curated menu? I am sold. I merely browsed Nozomi’s website and I am already convinced to book my next Japanese dining experience here.

Nozomi is the brainchild of parent restaurant Yoshi located on Orchard. Providing bento sets and donburis, the ingredients used are seasonal to preserve quality. Regardless of your chosen topping, the most important aspect of every Japanese meal is the rice.

nozomi - plated dish

Using the authentic method of preparation, short-grain Japanese rice is mixed with red vinegar to lightly enhance its starchy flavours. The marinated rice is then ready to complement its seafood pairings to bring out its natural sweetness.

To fully experience these flavours, I would order their Barachirashi (S$24) or Buta Kakuni Don (S$24). While most of us already know what to expect in the former, the latter consists of Japanese braised Hokkaido pork belly and an onsen egg served on rice.

5. Gochi So Shokudo (#02-16)

millenia walk Gochi So Shokudo - tonkotsu

Affordable and high-quality Iberico Bellota pork dishes? Yes, please! With every slab of pork flown in from Spain, you can ensure that only the juiciest and most succulent slices are served at Gochi So Shokudo in Millenia Walk

A very special menu recently launched received huge attention and hence, the team decided to extend its offerings. While most of us are familiar with regular deep-fried tonkatsu, Gochi So Shokudo impresses diners with their Hokkaido Cheese Mille Feuille Katsu (S$15.90)

Given its beautiful thin layers of pork and cheese stuffing, you can expect the most satisfying ooze photo shot ever. The multi-layered meat creates a super juicy flavour bomb that is encased between the layers. As for the cheese, I mean, who doesn’t love a good cheese pull?

For those who enjoy thicker cuts of meat, get their Iberico Yuzu Koshio Yaki (S$13.90). There isn’t much to explain— just look at the glaze and charr from the images alone!

They also offer several promotions and deals occasionally so visit their Facebook page for the latest updates!

6. Highlander Bar (#01-03 to 05)

millenia walk Highlander Bar - interior

With robust flavours and live entertainment, Highlander Bar in Millenia Walk has got you covered for post-work Friday nights! If you love loud music, entertainment and whiskey, this one’s for you.

With over 15 years of experience, the brand boasts — and I quote — world-class live music entertainment. Daily live band performances are available followed by a deejay playing.

Choose your seats from 2 contrasting concepts — a timber indoor decor or a breezy quayside space. The latter invites you to an alfresco area that faces the Park and Dine section in Millenia Walk to watch the sunset.

If you want European cuisine, begin your meal with a series of starters before moving on to mains and dessert. Staff recommendations include their Home Cured Salmon Gravlax, Pork Bangers & Mash and Scotch Eggs

Drinks-wise, there are over 200 selections of whiskies and liquors available. Boozy buddies, revel in their wide range of Premium Whiskey options served by the glass.

7. Saboten (#02-14)

millenia walk saboten - tonkotsu

With every tonkatsu stall, the star of the show is no doubt the pork itself. Saboten in Millenia Walk offers Berkshire meat, which is equivalent to Kurobuta in Japan. Similar to how Kobe beef is highly prized in the culinary perspective of beef cuts, Berkshire is the most superior type of pork.

With an exceptional marbling found on the pork, it is expected to retain its richness, meaty textures and flavours even after being deep fried. Priced slightly higher than other tonkatsu joints, the Kurobuta Loin Katsu Set (S$34) or Kurobuta Special Set (S$38) is enough to put you into a food coma.

Those looking to try out several ingredients should opt for the latter. The platter comes with half a portion of Kurobuta Pork Loin, Mini Tenderloin Katsu, Fried Shrimp and Crab Cream Croquette.

Do note that all sets come with Uonuma Koshihikari rice, chawanmushi, miso soup and vegetables, so don’t over-order!

8. The Dark Gallery (#01-K5)

millenia walk the dark gallery - several dishes

Chocolate fans would already know that Millenia Walk’s The Dark Gallery is a familiar face on Singapore’s desserts scene. A huge range of chocolate-flavoured desserts are showcased that would make the perfect post-dinner treat.

To fully experience what the team has to offer, I encourage diners to order their Single Origin Chocolate Platter (S$16). Although I must emphasise that the portions may be slightly too much for 1 to 2 persons.

The construction is presented much like a tree with a different chocolate-based creation on each of the 4 branches. Begin from the brownie that lies right on top before working your way down. With every descent, the cocoa percentage increases in the dessert.

For those who do not enjoy chocolate desserts, the Assorted Tea Cake is another popular menu item that may entice you. Lighter flavours include Earl Grey Lavender with Cream Cheese Frosting (S$6). Those with a heavier palate may enjoy the Matcha and White Chocolate Brown Sugar Crumble (S$6)

9. Yen Bar (#01-16/19)

millenia walk yen bar - negroni

With Yen Bar, it’s always go big or go home! Heavily focused on getting cocktails done right, the brand offers an extensive range of alcoholic drinks and the most creative bar bites.

Prices are kept super cheap here with Martinis going for S$9.90 every Monday. Enough with the boring classics and get yourself a glass (or 2) of their Cold Brew Martini and Popcorn Martini. I assume these will be especially popular among the ladies or those with a sweet tooth.

I love how they categorise their cocktail selections on the menu. If you’re looking for a heavier drink, the Cold Brew Negroni (S$12), Adios MF (S$12) or Tokyo Tea (S$12) will do the trick.

What’s a couple of shots without proper grub? Chow down on some Yen Dogs with flavours such as the Laksa Dog (S$19). Or just stick to the usual fare — Loaded Fries (S$19), Spicy Honey Soy Chicken Wings (S$16) or Poutine (S$19)

10. Black Knight Hotpot (#02-02/05)

To round off this Millenia Walk series, my personal favourite would be none other than Taiwanese brand Black Knight Hotpot.

The star of every hotpot meal should be the broth or soup base. Luckily for us, Black Knight Hotpot in Millenia Walk has 7 types of soups that are stewed for 16 hours. Eventually, all the natural flavours from the ingredients seep out and create a flavourful bomb.

Although more pricey than other hotpot joints, a slew of ingredients are thrown into the soup base before you even place a la carte orders. The popular options include Fish Maw Chicken Pot (S$48) and Spicy Pot (S$38)

With 18 condiments available, feel free to whip up your favourite dipping sauce or go crazy making bold choices. A must-have condiment is their black bean sauce which mixes XO sauce and salty black beans. An umami explosion indeed!

Add in some premium meats such as the Japanese A4 Wagyu (S$128) or Okinawa Black Pork Belly (S$26). You will surely impress your date with this meal!
