Yuen Woo-ping honoured with Star Asia award at NYAFF
5 Jul – Filmmaker and martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-ping has recently been honoured with the Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award by the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAAF).
As reported on Xinhua, the director, who appeared at the festival held in Lincoln Center in New York to accept the award, expressed his hopes that there will always be new faces in the martial arts genre to pass on the Kung Fu culture to future generations.
Yuen himself is known for discovering martial arts talents like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, and Wu Jing.
"Although I am also an actor, I am not really good at it. As an action director, I can showcase my strength," he said.
In a press conference held at the same event, Yuen regarded his father as the biggest influence in his life.
"I developed a passion for kung fu because of him. Passion is the key to success. You can never carry on with something for decades if you are not interested in it," he said.
Among Yuen's latest films as action choreographer include "The Grandmaster", "Ip Man 3", and "Man of Tai Chi". His latest directorial effort was the 2018 film, "Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy".
