Yishun Pasar Malam has Samyang noodle egg rolls, ice cream popiah & fried mochi until 3 Sep 2023

After just 2 months since its previous food fair, Yishun has returned with an even bigger pasar malam in the same location. Yishun Pasar Malam is located right outside Yishun MRT Station, and this large scale fair will be taking place across 16 days from 19 Aug to 3 Sep 2023.

The pasar malam fully occupies the large open space outside the MRT station, with a large variety of Food & Beverage (F&B) options, as well as carnival game stalls and a market section.

Compared to other pasar malams I have visited in recent months, I must say that Yishun Pasar Malam offers a range of unique food creations that I haven’t seen before.

Some of the stalls you can find at the pasar malam include Haha Egg, which sells cute egg pancakes and egg pancake wraps, and Rosti Haus, where you can get an assortment of rosti and viral “UFO” spaceship burgers.

I was intrigued by a stall selling Taiwanese peanut ice cream popiahs, which I have never seen in a pasar malam before. The popiahs come with either Vanilla, Yam or Coconut ice cream, coriander and crushed peanuts, wrapped in a popiah skin. If you live in the North and don’t want to travel all the way to TaiWan Night Markets in Cineleisure for your ice cream popiah fix, you can visit Yishun Pasar Malam instead and grab a roll for just S$4.

Check out the adorable AhAe Taiyaki which sells the iconic Japanese fish-shaped pancakes in flavours like Taro, Kaya, Red Bean and Chocolate for S$2.50 each or S$6 for 3 pieces. Satisfy your savoury cravings with Bangkok Grill‘s Moo-Ping (S$2 for 1 stick, S$5 for 3 sticks), with an assortment of grilled skewered meat.

Other eats you can expect to find include Japanese Fried Mochi, Sushi Bake, Rou Jia Mo and Pisang Keju.

Yishun Pasar Malam has no shortage of Taiwanese food for you to savour. I got a bowl of Oyster Mee Sua (S$4) from Teochew Traditional Oyster Puff, which came with 2 and a half pieces of whole oysters and a pretty sizeable portion of noodles in a starchy gravy. Though I would have liked for there to be a stronger vinegar taste, it was generally pretty comforting.

There are plenty of other stalls to get your Taiwanese fix, such as Pang Xiong Mei, which has XXXL Chicken Chops (S$6) and Braised Pork Rice (S$5.50).

Pang Xiong Mei also had Fire Chicken Noodle Wraps (S$3 for 1 piece, S$5 for 2 pieces), which were essentially Samyang noodles wrapped in rice paper. I decided to try their Egg Rolls (S$6), a dish that contained spicy Samyang noodles, a slice of cheese and a hotdog, wrapped within an egg.

Though the dish was pretty tasty, you could honestly probably make it at home yourself, given how it was essentially just instant noodles cooked with an egg.

Aside from food, Yishun Pasar Malam has a pretty extensive shopping area where you can buy goods like bags, pillows, stuffed toys, phone cases and miscellaneous electronic products.

Overall, Yishun Pasar Malam is worth a visit for its large size and unique food options. It will only be around for a little over 2 weeks, so don’t miss it!
