Is Wingstop Singapore’s IG account just a bold marketing stunt— or has it actually been hacked?
Wingstop Singapore‘s Instagram account, which has 21.8K followers, recently wiped out all of its posts and replaced them with bizarre, sketchy content, starting on 1 Apr 2025 (yes, April Fool’s Day). Now, this has left several netizens confused, including myself.
Is this a clever, Gen Z-style marketing gimmick— or just a bunch of hackers wreaking havoc on the account? It’s been about a week, and eight more posts have surfaced, most of them calling for the return of the Hot Honey Rub flavour.
The captions are filled with shortforms, misspellings, and slang that perhaps only the younger generation can decipher. To me, it just reads like a bunch of gibberish, much like the ‘skibiddy toilet’ trend, which really irks me.
There are even screenshots of chats supposedly from Wingstop Singapore’s marketing team, claiming the account has fallen into the wrong hands and pleading with the ‘hackers’ to return access. To be honest, if I were a panicked marketing staff, using emojis would be the last thing on my mind — that was the first giveaway.
There’s even a wacky reel showcasing a distressed Wingstop staff member (LOL) sitting down with her wrists bound in masking tape. Within seconds, the video transitions to a chicken wing appearing, accompanied by the caption: ‘bring hot honey back’.
However, it was the latest 2 posts that slowly convinced me that this entire stunt may actually be a marketing strategy. The supposed hacker even laid out a list of conditions:
Bring Hot Honey Back
Extra chicken for every secondary school student
Deliver 48 pieces of hot honey to them
The latest post concluded with a promotion that’s ongoing from 6 to 8 Apr 2025, about getting 3 free pieces of hot honey rub wings. Netizens took to the comments to ask one another if the offer was legit or just a prank.
At the end of the day, it just seems like an extended April Fool’s joke to me, or did they really get hacked? I guess we’ll find out after 8 Apr! Stay tuned to their Instagram.
