Why this school’s note to parents has taken over the internet

Whenever a school makes a policy change, or a problematic dress code, the internet is the first to make its opinions known. One high school in Little Rock, Arkansas has a bunch parents pissed off, and it’s actually caused quite a bit of controversy.

Catholic High School for Boys posted a note to parents on Facebook.

“Welcome to Catholic High,” the caption to the photo reads. “We teach reading, writing, arithmetic, and problem-solving.”

The note has many parents arguing about where their responsibility for their sons ends, and the school’s begins.

“If you are dropping off your son’s forgotten lunch, books, homework, equipment, etc.,” it reads, “please TURN AROUND and exit the building.”

The post, which has 70k likes, 120k shares, and nearly 4k comments, has clearly caused quite a stir on the internet.

The goal? To teach kids to solve problems on their own.

“Your son will learn to problem solve in your absence.”

People have differing responses to the note. One comment reads, “If my kids [sic] school did that I would be pulling them out in a heart beat I get if it’s an everyday occurrence for the same kid then I get it but nobody is perfect, sometimes something else is on your mind and u [sic] forgot.”

While another commenter writes, “The parents who are complaining about this policy are the ones filling our colleges with the delicate little flowers who need safe spaces.”

Some are even alleging that it’s child abuse, saying, “So are you going to offer my child a lunch because he forgot his at home? Or does he have to go with out at witch [sic] point becomes a form of child abuse.“

Wowza. It’s definitely caused quite a bit of controversy, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
