Why Meghan Markle Isn’t Wearing Her Engagement Ring Despite PDA With Prince Harry at the Invictus Games

Meghan Markle reunited with Prince Harry in Düsseldorf, Germany, for the ongoing Invictus Games this week, and the couple genuinely acted like a smitten couple in front of cameras. However, some noticed that Meghan’s engagement ring from Harry was missing amid the lovey moments. Meghan has been wearing just her wedding band and eternity band.

There’s no drama behind its absence though: People was told that the ring is “currently being serviced because a setting came loose.”

Meghan and Harry have been very affectionate at the majority of events they’ve attended together, holding hands, grabbing each other’s arms, and more. Here they are, being affectionate while watching the wheelchair basketball finals today:

They began the day also holding hands while arriving at the games:

Meghan and Harry’s cuddly moments stand in stark contract to working royals Kate Middleton and Prince William, who almost never show PDA at royal engagements. There is no protocol against showing affection even for working royals, though.

Beaumont Etiquette’s founder and director Myka Meier, a British-American trained by a former member of the Queen’s household, laid out the protocol candidly to ELLE.com in July 2018.

“It’s up to each and every royal and royal couple how affectionate they are,” she said. “There’s no protocol that tells them they can’t hug or kiss or touch. There’s no rule book like that. Each senior member of the royal family is trusted to make the judgement calls of what’s appropriate and when. It’s all about being trusted to make those calls on their own.”
