When is the best time to visit Taiwan?

When it comes to visiting Taiwan, people would usually think of the capital city Taipei, which sits on the northern tip of Taiwan. However, the winter period between December and Febrary is actually not the best time to be in Taipei.
Due to the monsoon, north Taiwan receives more rainfall than south Taiwan in winter. This means if you hate having to trudge in the rain or letting the wet weather affect your outdoor plans, it’s better to visit South Taiwan during winter instead.
South Taiwan features several interesting cities and counties, including Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. From Taoyuan International Airport, you can reach Tainan in less than two hours by train and Kaohsiung in about two hours by train. If you’re flying straight to Kaohsiung International Airport, you can reach Tainan in 45 minutes by train and Pingtung (Kenting) in two and a half hours by a combination of train and bus.
