West Mall offers 50% off eVouchers, Mid-Autumn Fair & performances for a limited time only
All you Westies listen up! Mid-Autumn Festival is all about gathering with your loved ones to enjoy the festivities, and if you’ve not bought your mooncakes (I’m looking at you), West Mall’s wide range of delectable mooncakes might just fit the bill. West Mall is also conveniently located next to the Bukit Batok MRT so if you end up carrying loads of mooncakes back, this will be very convenient for you.
Mid-autumn fairs have always been my favourite since young as I would get to walk down the endless aisles of mooncake booths to sample each and every one to see which I preferred more. Well, now you can, too! Only till 15 September 2024, West Mall is hosting a Mid-Autumn Fair featuring some of the largest premium brand names in the industry with the likes of Crowne Plaza, Tai Chong Kok, Orchard Hotel (Hua Ting), St. Regis Singapore, amongst others.
With a wide variety of mooncakes ranging from traditional baked skin to snow skin with regular lotus paste and exquisite ones like durian fillings, there’s bound to be one that suits your liking.
To begin with, the Orchard Hotel (Hua Ting) mooncakes are presented in an elegantly simple box that includes a DIY lantern, adding an extra touch to the festive celebrations. Catering to those who watch their diet, the Low Sugar White Lotus Paste with Macadamia Nuts (S$85) is a great option.
Continuing with the Premium hotel selection is St. Regis Singapore, featuring their elegant Tiffany blue mooncake boxes that exude luxury this year. Salted egg lovers like me will enjoy their Lotus Paste with Double Yolk (S$65.80 for a box of 2).
I feel that one yolk is never enough, so 2 is the right balance of umami and that sweet and creamy lotus paste. Biting down on the yolk gives you that burst of savouriness that I immensely enjoy.
If you’re looking for something even more traditional, then I’d recommend checking out Tai Chong Kok. With their old school-looking mooncake boxes and their colourful Piglets Baskets (S$2.50), I was immediately transported to a time when I was much younger.
In this nostalgic-looking basket, besides the Piglets in Basket, they also sold Golden Pig (S$4.50) which is filled with a white bean paste.
My favourite has to be the Durian Mooncakes (from S$55) from Hong Kong Bay which comes with a free cooler bag. Considering the high quality of the durian, I think the price is quite competitive when compared to other durian mooncake brands. The creamy, fresh pulp was a delight!
What sets them apart from the rest is the introduction of Mou Tai Mooncakes (S$58 per piece). Highly sought-after Chinese wine is infused into the white chocolate filling of the mooncake.
Not only that, the mooncake is also packed with raisins that have been soaked in Mou Tai. All that nicely wrapped up in a thin snow skin casing, this is truly a treat for anyone who is looking for a luxurious gift for an esteemed friend or family member.
Switching gears, shoppers can also look forward to other stalls such as one that sells cute cartoon water bottles and electric lanterns in line with the festivities.
Get your Mid-Autumn education on! Informative posters are also featured at the event, sharing interesting facts about the festival.
If the vast array of mooncakes and brands isn’t enticing enough, how about shopping for these treats while enjoying fascinating performances such as the traditional Ribbon Dance and Face Changing Puppet Show at L1 atrium on 7, 8, 14 & 15 Sep at 2pm & 5pm.
