A Wagatha Christie drama-documentary is officially happening! Here's all the info

As news *just* comes in that Rebekah Vardy has lost her libel claim against Coleen Rooney, the high-profile 'Wagatha Christie' case is officially getting it's own TV show.

Following speculation that a show about the trial was in the works, a two-part Wagatha Christie drama-documentary has now finally been confirmed by Channel 4, titled Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama.

The documentary will follow Vardy's libel case against Rooney, following Rooney's claims that someone with access to Rebekah Vardy’s Instagram account was behind several stories that had been leaked about her in the tabloid press. Rooney published her now infamous theory on social media, infamously concluding with the words, "It’s ……….Rebekah Vardy’s account." Vardy denied the allegations, going on to sue Rooney for libel.

Now, the case is being covered in TV form, and we can't wait. Here's everything we know about the Wagatha Christie doc so far...

When was the Wagatha Christie documentary announced?

There's been plenty of speculation surrounding this one, but Channel 4 officially confirmed Vardy v Rooney this week (26th July).

It's being produced by Chalkboard for Channel 4, with creative director Tom Popay announcing the documentary in a statement. He told viewers:

"The #WagathaChristie phenomenon has become one of the most talked about moments in the history of social media. The court case that followed has captivated the entire nation but very few people actually got to see what happened inside the courtroom. We're excited to bring the trial to life in such a unique way and we're hoping we can get to the bottom of how this case fascinated and amazed so many."

Director Oonagh Kearney also shared his thoughts on the doc, saying [via Digital Spy]:

"This trial utterly captivated the public with its daily feed of entertaining exchanges and jaw-dropping reveals. But behind this is a story of two women under constant public scrutiny, fighting for their reputations."

We're invested.

Who will star in the Wagatha Christie documentary?

It's reported that Vardy v Rooney will use verbatim court transcripts to tell the story of the trial, as well as social media and mainstream media commentary.

Actors are also apparently set to play Rebekah Vardy, Coleen Rooney and husbands Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy. However, we'll sadly have to wait a bit longer to find out who will be stepping up to fill the roles.

Does the Wagatha Christie documentary have a release date?

Unfortunately there's no official release date just yet for Vardy v Rooney. When the series does drop, it'll be available on Channel 4 and streaming on All 4. However, given the fact that the trial is making headlines right now, we'd be expecting the series to drop in the next few months.
