The "Viral" Luminara Flameless Candles Are Actually Made by Disney—And I Can Confirm They're MAGIC

The Luminara Taper Candles Live Up to the Hype Amazon

Anyone creating a tablescape knows it’s not as easy as it looks. You need all the right pieces, from a runner or tablecloth (perhaps both?) to pretty plates and glassware to floral arrangements or candles. One night, when my husband and I were debating how to make our long dining table more vibey for gatherings, we went back and forth on buying real or faux candles. I wanted real ones, but I didn’t trust our friends (or our friends’ kids) not to accidentally knock them down and ignite our table runner. My husband was team faux. He had just watched TikTok videos on the viral Luminara Taper Candles and said they looked so real we should get them. On a whim, I said, “Sure, let’s give them a try,” secretly thinking I would hate how they looked in real life.

Of course, the plot twist here is that I ended up loving the faux taper candles! I thought they would look ugly and fake, which most flameless candles do, but they seem quite real because of how they’re designed. Luminara uses 100 percent pure paraffin wax, which is what real candles are made from, so they feel realistic. The “flame” part dances around like a real flame thanks to two AA batteries powering it up to create the flickering movement. The light that emits from the flame is a warm yellow-orange to give it that realistic glow.

Additionally, for my Disney lovers: Luminara candles were actually created by Walt Disney set designers for the film Pirates of the Caribbean—hence why they’re so magical.

When we received our set of Luminara Taper Candles, we immediately tested them out at dinner on a random Thursday night. We dimmed the lights, clicked the bottom of the candles once to turn them on, and set them on top of our West Elm table runner. I must say, it was soothing and pleasant to dine in “candlelight” and not worry about the taper candles falling over and setting everything on fire. Plus, I didn’t have to deal with any dripping wax. The batteries have a 200-hour run time and a timer function that turns the candle off after five hours. We don’t use the timer (and didn’t buy the remote to control them from afar), but we’ve left them on for hours on end on our fireplace mantel when guests are over. You can even put the taper candles in holders to make them look prettier: we currently don’t have candlesticks, so we will need to buy some.

Luminara is the real deal for anyone considering investing in faux (but real-looking) taper candles. I even checked Amazon to see if the brand sells non-taper styles so we can expand our collection, and it does! It has tea lights and pillar-style options. If you have young kids or are afraid of potential fire hazards, the Luminara taper candles are perfect for your dinner parties and outdoor soirées. Get the ones I love, or check out similar styles from Luminara below—you won’t be disappointed by your purchase.
