TVB announces new format for Miss Hong Kong 2020

28 Apr – Despite previously announcing the cancellation of 2020 Miss Hong Kong pageant, TVB executive Sandy Yu recently revealed that the company is still planning to hold the pageant, but in a different form.

As reported on Mingpao, Sandy shared the news at a press conference held in TVB City to announce the company's plans during the pandemic, saying that the pageant will be conducted in the form of a virtual reality show, where contestants show their daily lives, swimwear looks, make-up style and many others, and viewers will be able to eliminate contestants early on.

She added that despite the new form, the terms and conditions for the pageant remains the same.

"We are still working on the details and will announce them later. Many new elements will be transformed, there can be a lot of interaction. It is a new look for the Miss Hong Kong pageant," she said.

As to whether the pageant will only feature Hong Kong contestants, the TVB executive said that all qualified girls from around the world can participate in the competition.

"Recruitment will start at the end of May, and 50 or 60 people will tentatively be recruited," she said.

Asked if she is worried that some contestants could use filters and beauty apps, Sandy responded, "We have our own method to detect it, and we will also arrange for our staff to set up the standard equipment."
