Make sure you’re sitting down for this news, because all your dreams are about to come true in one fell swoop. The trailer for the live action The Little Mermaid is finally available for viewing. You read that right. This is not a drill. Life under the sea is coming to theaters this year.

There are a couple things to know before you watch the trailer. First and foremost, The Little Mermaid isn’t a Disney production, although the story is based on the classic fairytale we all grew up with. The story will be different than the tale of Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian, but it seems to be just as dazzling and memorable. See for yourself.

Excited yet? Is your inner mermaid singing yet?! The story takes place in Mississippi in 1837, when a young girl and her older brother travel to a fair where the mythical mermaid is said to be held. The beautiful mermaid has sold her soul, though, and she can’t live without it or else she’ll die. From what we can tell, the girl and her brother embark on a rescue mission to save the little mermaid.

Another thing we know for sure is there will be singing in the movie. The mermaid herself is seen singing in the trailer, although it doesn’t seem we’ll be hearing the same soundtrack that came along with the animated “The Little Mermaid.”

The movie stars Poppy Drayton, William Moseley, Loreto Peralta, Shirley Maclaine (yay!), and Gina Gershon. We don’t know when exactly it’s going to be released, but it’s set to premiere sometime this year. That’s all we need to know for now!

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about The Little Mermaid. In the meantime, brush up on your mermaid trivia and relearn all the mermaid songs. It’ll get you in the right frame of mind!
